Summary: There is a newer version of this drive which is near identical to this drive and the firmware enables slightly faster read/write speeds - . This is my 4th WD Passport drive and my first WD USB 3.0 drive. I use my Passport drives to backup my data/documents.
Summary: Two things the My Passport Slim Metal is not: slim and metal. Ok, it is ever so very slightly slimmer than the regular My Passport. Maybe half a millimeter. Metal? Not exactly. There is a metal plate on the top of the housing; the rest is plastic, as with the less expensive My Passport.
Summary: The item is heavy and thick. 'Slim' is not a word to describe it. And, like the newer versions (blue, silver, or champagne) only the top is metal. Not really a big deal. But note that Western Digital's statement of 3 year warranty is a bit misleading: the warranty period starts when they FIRST sell...
Summary: Outstanding portable hard drive. I bought a Lacie 500 MB drive in 2009. It's fairly large, heavy, and not at all portable. Also couldn't secure the data. I was shocked out how small this WD drive is.
Summary: I've owned 4 different external HDs of various companies over the years (LaCie, Seagate). They all lasted between several weeks to half a year before they developed corrupted sectors and had to be reformatted again and again.
Summary: Very light and very handy. After a lil research, I found out this is the lightest in its domain and within my budget of $70. Have all my documents, movies, music and pictures in it. Got 1 TB since I kinda conserve on saving stuff.
Summary: Great hard drive. I very much recommend it if your looking for a sleek, compact, and durable hard drive. WD is a great brand in the business, but this drive still surprised me - go for the slim, you wont regret it.
Summary: I tried to use this in my Windows 8 PC. The PC never found the drive. Yes, I tried every single piece of advice on this and other sites. (I'm a Microsoft Certified Professional, by the way. I tried even the most technical approaches.) Tried it on my Windows 8.1 PC. PC never found the drive.
Summary: Have had it for just two weeks or so. Ordered it primarily for my Microsoft Surface Pro which has only 128 GB for storage. It was immediately recognized by the Surface and my Win 7 desktop as well after it was plugged in to the USB port. It IS compact and quiet and runs cool.
