Alejandro V., Newegg
21 January 2014
  • Pros: Looks good, run smooth (while it lasts). Did my research and having owned (and still do) two other WD external drives this seemed like a good idea......
  • Cons: I'm a professional photographer (used to be a computer programmer in the days of Apple II and Apple IIe, Lisa, etc)... Needed a backup drive for my iMAC plus photos... within 6 months it just stopped working all the sudden... was never able to tureen it on again. Although it has been in data reco...

WD = Waiting Disaster...

HCM, Amazon
26 June 2013
  • Summary: WD should change name to Warning Disaster! If you buy WD products for backing up data you are waiting for disaster to visit you. WD My Passport, only one year old, one day my computer was unable to open it. I heard a quiet clicking sound within the device.

Awful

Victoria A., Newegg
24 June 2013
  • Summary: Awful Drive. Awful Customer service. Awful Purchase.
  • Pros: Quick Shipping
  • Cons: Was excited to receive this drive and finally consolidate all my files on one drive. I spent over a week copying 100s of back up DVDs, saved online items and a number of other hard drives. After have 1.5tb+ organized and filed properly, the drive just stopped working. No warning. Nothing. It just...

Failed in 3 weeks - data lost!

Seth H., Newegg
21 June 2013
  • Summary: I ordered this drive with the intent to remove it from it's USB controller and run it directly from my SATA controller...so now I can't even return it. /wrists
  • Pros: Huge capacity for little money.
  • Cons: Failed after 3 week of general use! I lost ~1.5TB of data! Luckily still have originals of the backup copies for the pictures etc. I purchase a lot of IT equipment for work, WD Greens are off my list of go-to parts.

Today is a saddening day.

Holden H., Newegg
4 June 2013
  • Summary: I heard nightmares about 3TB drives that's the reason why I waited 2 years before I touched one. The first one I bought was a Seagate Expansion this becomes a blazing inferno, so I thought why not test my luck on a 3tb elements?
  • Pros: None.
  • Cons: USB 2.0 Slow transfer speeds, but it was a given, Died one day after it arrived. Yesterday it worked fine. I managed to slowly transfer 1.3 TB of data onto the new drive. Today when i plugged it in the drive wouldn't even light up. I'm guessing its a faulty case. If I RMA all my data is lost. If ...
