I/O not resonding
18 August 2012
Summary: After 5 months of using the WD 2TB, the unit stopped working and an ERROR message – I/O not responding. I could not access all my data and with limited warranty provided I basically lost all my records.
Summary: This drive replaced a failed WD MyBook which lasted 5 years. I didn't want the clutter of Smartware, so I opted for the Elements product. It performed as expected but the new Elements drive failed in two months. That could have been just a fluke, but the replacement Elements drive sent under warranty also failed in two months.
Summary: I plugged it in and immediately my Windows 7 machine said it wasn't formatted, then wouldn't recognize it at all. So I tried my Windows XP machine, which was hysterically confused about it, going into an endless loop trying to figure out what it was. The funniest part of it all was when I tried a USB 3.0 slot on my Windows 7 machine and Windows told me the device would operate faster if I hooked it up to a USB 2.0 slot!
Summary: I was very optimistic because of all the positive reviews online. However, now going back and reading the negative reviews... that is exactly what happened. My new hard drive stopped working after using it for 2 days..... I don't know if I'm just part of that small percentage but very disappointed.... I hope I can get the data that saved....
Summary: I bought this drive in June and it died in November. WD sent out another power supply in a speedy 23 days but I quickly realized the drive is in fact dead and not just the PSU. Yes, it's under warranty but what am I going to do? Send it back to WD with all my data on it??? Avoid this POS like the plague.
Summary: I have windows XP professional with service pack 3 running on my PC. I hardly ever use the drive except for the backup, which usually happens once in a month. When I tried to backup today, the drive never showed up in the computer and disk management.
Summary: I purchased this drive 9/13/09, placed it into service 10/15/09. It started getting flakey only 8 hours into a backup operation and first power up. I reformatted it NTFS so that it can hold a 20Gb backup file from PC Backup Pro. It is recommended since FAT32 has a 4Gb file size limit. I may do a NTFS/FAT32 split. Be sure to backup the 2 files on it that comes with it (contains WD logo for XP, Vista, and Win 7) and restore them after NTFS conversion.
Western Digital Elements 1TB 3.5" Desktop External Hard Drive
6 August 2013
Excerpt: None. The external drive powered on fine, and installed fine. It seemed to function, but when I began copying files to the external, challenges arose. Files would begin transferring at absurd prices like 70MB/s which is faster than USB2. permits. Then it would start off slowing down a lot more and much more and additional and then my laptop would freeze. This happened by way of various attempts. The drive was clearly defective. ๖ to purchase, cost-free shipping.
