Summary: I bought a Western Digital My Book 3.0 - 1 TB drive about a year ago because I needed a reliable drive for regular back ups for my MacBook Pro via Time Machine. When I first plugged it in, it was fast, connected easily, and gave me no problems at all. It worked great...
Summary: Bought this setup to backup files in addition to add the USB 3.0 card to my desktop. Never carried it aroud or moved it more than from a location on the desk to another. Then one day I am moving it and the micro USB 3 connection to the board on the hard drive snapped off outta nowhere.
Summary: I had this drive for only a couple of months and I was very careful with it but the USB plug still broke off in the case. That wouln't be so bad because they have a good warranty. The only problem is..
Summary: I have used Western Digital for years and have loads of them. You can even drop them and they are like workhorses - they keep on working. The 3.0 has a new USB connection interface. I bought two of these drives.
Summary: If you just want a hard drive buy this and tear it apart to pull the WD Caviar Black drive out, otherwise look elsewhere. As others have stated the usb port on the external enclosure is attached with spit and pulls out quite easily tearing several pins out and rendering the enclosure unusable.
Summary: I purchased a 1TB my book 3.0 and used it for about a month and a half until the connector pulled of the PCB. This seems to be a recurring problem with these drives. Fortunately I backed it up the night before this happened but I did add more files the next day.
Summary: I ordered this item June 02 and used it to move files from my computer since my main drive was getting too full. I used it once to place the files there and maybe twice too read some files from there. 6 weeks later my computer suddenly does not recognize the external drive anymore.
Summary: This item was received promptly and well packaged. However in pursuit of a purely technical enquiry I comtacted Western Digital and was astonished to learn that the product had been manufactured almost three years previously and was six months beyond any manufacturers warranty.
Summary: Very dissapointed, product has blown up in under 2 years. no power light, went to the trouble of puchasing new leads but no go (item hardly used) very dissapointed. + as usual no reply to correspondence. Advise you try another make
