Summary: This is exactly what I needed! Unfortunately once I got it installed I found that the power supply for the computer was blown. They were courteous and even though I ordered days before Christmas I received this sooner than I thought. Perfect!
Summary: I got this in the mail brand new and put it in my dell desktop and the thing doesn't even work. I tried switching all the cables and still nothing. I definitely won't be buying western digital anymore.
Summary: This drive came in my iMac and after less than 3 years it died. It was working fine one day, the next day it made a clicking sound and my computer would not boot-up. Less than 3 years of home use is a waist of money. So if you use western digital back up often, so you won't loose all your data like I did. 22,000 hours till failure inexcusable! Well it cost me over $500 to replace the drive, so save your money don't buy this drive.
Summary: I installed it with ease. No problems at all it worked well no bad sectors on the hard drive I used the speed fan monitoring tool and used the smart analyzer and found nothing wrong with the hard drive
Summary: I just thought I would add this!!! I have been trying to figure out how long I have had my oldest drive, and looking this drive up and zooming in on view (it says 2005) I realize I have had this drive for roughly 9 years!!. It could be longer it could be shorter, but if you ask me it's pretty damn good. So buying a drive and it failing does not mean it is a crap drive, it means " that one was " so... not all drives are the same!!
Summary: Well - I also was pessimistic when ordered 4 of those to setup local backup on 4 SATA drives on a 30$ SATA controller using software RAID under linux... but now, when around 2 years left, none of the drives has failed, SMART diagnostics never produced any warning on the self-tests... and that is under quite heavy load (this box backs up around 6 desktops and 1 heavy server) So I can't say anything bad about these drives.
Summary: I knew that WD quality control has been going down in the last few years, but I was still foolish enough to give this a try. This probably shouldn't be a surprise, but the drive was DOA. It makes loud noises when spinning up, then seems to work fine for 5-10 minutes, then another loud noise, and it causes a blue screen. I'm waiting for the RMA now.
