  • Summary: After the power outage, I was down to one drive and my server was not happy. This got to me quick and all is well in the world again!

Indeed many people dislike WD drives

Yaroslav Halchenko "yarikoptic", Amazon
4 November 2007
  • Summary: Well - I also was pessimistic when ordered 4 of those to setup local backup on 4 SATA drives on a 30$ SATA controller using software RAID under linux... but now, when around 2 years left, none of the drives has failed, SMART diagnostics never produced any warning on the self-tests... and that is under quite heavy load (this box backs up around 6 desktops and 1 heavy server) So I can't say anything bad about these drives.

Avoid at all costs.

H. Bostanci, Amazon
4 November 2007
  • Summary: I knew that WD quality control has been going down in the last few years, but I was still foolish enough to give this a try. This probably shouldn't be a surprise, but the drive was DOA. It makes loud noises when spinning up, then seems to work fine for 5-10 minutes, then another loud noise, and it causes a blue screen. I'm waiting for the RMA now.

Gable Valcarce, Amazon

  • Summary: I got this in the mail brand new and put it in my dell desktop and the thing doesn't even work. I tried switching all the cables and still nothing. I definitely won't be buying western digital anymore.

Unreliable

Thomas C. Garrison "Book reader", Amazon
4 November 2007
  • Summary: This drive came in my iMac and after less than 3 years it died. It was working fine one day, the next day it made a clicking sound and my computer would not boot-up. Less than 3 years of home use is a waist of money. So if you use western digital back up often, so you won't loose all your data like I did. 22,000 hours till failure inexcusable! Well it cost me over $500 to replace the drive, so save your money don't buy this drive.

Not All Drives Are The Same!!!!

Goyahkla, Amazon
4 November 2007
  • Summary: I just thought I would add this!!! I have been trying to figure out how long I have had my oldest drive, and looking this drive up and zooming in on view (it says 2005) I realize I have had this drive for roughly 9 years!!. It could be longer it could be shorter, but if you ask me it's pretty damn good. So buying a drive and it failing does not mean it is a crap drive, it means " that one was " so... not all drives are the same!!

Thank you

Jodi M. Sammons, Amazon
4 November 2007
  • Summary: This is exactly what I needed! Unfortunately once I got it installed I found that the power supply for the computer was blown. They were courteous and even though I ordered days before Christmas I received this sooner than I thought. Perfect!

Western Digital Caviar WD2500JD

core2kid, AfterDawn.com

  • Summary: Its a really quiet drive but its seek time isn't the best. I got it in my Dell though. You can improve the seek time by using Hitachi's Disk Took and adjusting the AAM on the drive.
