Summary: despite the mixed, mostly bad reviews on this product, I went for two of the 2GB to use on a current video project. I was going to use one to edit with, then the other vis Super Duper to clone after the working day. Well.. one worked great.. so far, the other, when plugged in, went "click click clack". The WD utility says "broken RAID, contact WD" yeh.. no..
Excerpt: I bought this product about 9 months ago. Everything was working fine until about last week. My computer stopped recognizing the device. It would blink and beep. None of my files could be retrieved because the hard drive itself is attached to the case, so the hard drive can't be freed. Apparently that's with all the WD external hard drives. I would suggest spend a few more bucks and get something better and not have to worry about it breaking in less than a year.
Summary: I take good care of my electronics and have been happy with this external hard drive for 2.5 years except now for one looming issue, breathe on the hard drive and the cable will disconnect from the USB port (on the drive, not the computer). What's the point of titanium plating if it disconnects and corrupts your data?!! I've wasted hours moving data back and forth in order to erase and re-partition the hard drive. Now I have to have a back up of my back up.
Summary: The drive has failed...after about 18 months of use. I highly recommend to not trust this HD... do not trust Western Digital. Awful experience. Terrible tech. support. Quite pathetic. SHAME ON YOU, WESTERN DIGITAL. I WENT THROUGH HELL BECAUSE OF YOU / THIS COMPANY.
Summary: I received the item fast but it does not work. the hard drive cannot be recognized. i have the same model with larger memory and it works right away the firs time I used it.I am requesting replacement. no replacement but they quickly refunded to my bank account.
Summary: I bought this in August 2012 to make a copy all my data when I cleared out/gave away my old computer. The hard drive was roughly 1/3 full and then I ignored it after the holidays. A few weeks ago I wanted to access a file but it wouldn't let me. Even after restarting / unplugging / etc the drive is acting wonky (various files appearing / not appearing, no access to actually open up any files).
