Summary: despite the mixed, mostly bad reviews on this product, I went for two of the 2GB to use on a current video project. I was going to use one to edit with, then the other vis Super Duper to clone after the working day. Well.. one worked great.. so far, the other, when plugged in, went "click click clack". The WD utility says "broken RAID, contact WD" yeh.. no..
Excerpt: I bought this product about 9 months ago. Everything was working fine until about last week. My computer stopped recognizing the device. It would blink and beep. None of my files could be retrieved because the hard drive itself is attached to the case, so the hard drive can't be freed. Apparently that's with all the WD external hard drives. I would suggest spend a few more bucks and get something better and not have to worry about it breaking in less than a year.
Summary: This product, advertised specifically as "for Mac," actually needs to be reformatted to work with Mac OSX Mavericks. Western Digital should really stay up to date with operating systems if they are going to advertise their products as "for mac.
Summary: This hard drive is very unreliable! I bought and used it for a month or so, and then suddenly my computer no longer recognize the drive. Sometimes, I get it to work, sometimes, it just does not show up on my mac. Worth to mention that the USB 3.0 port connection is very flimsy. This inconsistency does not give me peace of mind, so I decided to return it. Amazon nicely accepted to give me a refund.
Summary: I cannot get it to work automatically with my Time Machine. It goes to sleep and must be manually reawakened. Instruction manual is terrible too. It will back up only if I eject it, or unplug it, and plug it back in. If someone more savvy has suggestions, I'm all ears.
Summary: This drive became unusable after just over a month. It is too late to return it for a refund. I was using it for Time Machine backups, and I started getting an error. Now it says the disk is unrepairable. I never used it for anything but Time Machine backups. It should be able to handle that. All I need the drive to do is work, and it does not.
