The WD My Passport Slim is a fast and compact portable drive

24 November 2013
  • Summary: The speedy My Passport Slim is an excellent mobile backup and storage expansion option. Its rugged, metal-casing design is a great extra, considering its affordable cost.
  • Pros: The compact WD My Passport Slim drive offers fast performance, comes in a metal casing, and is comparatively affordable.
  • Cons: The drive could stand to be a little slimmer, especially the 2TB version.

  • Conclusion: For example, HP sells a brushed-aluminum portable drive that was $80 for the same 1TB capacity when we wrote this. And while USB 3.0 is the clear leader among external storage interfaces at this point, Seagate’s Backup Plus drives have interchangeable interfaces, so you can add FireWire or Thunderbolt cables to the drives without buying a whole new hard drive—all you need to get is a snap-on interface module.
  • Pros: All-metal frame feels rugged and premium, Simple, useful backup software works with non-WD drives and Dropbox, Three-year warranty
  • Cons: Not much slimmer than other portable WD drives, Pricey versus competing drives, Seagate Backup Plus drives are more versatile

Western Digital My Passport Slim

TechRadar UK
25 September 2013
  • Conclusion: Overall the Western Digital My Passport Slim is a very impressive portable hard drive. It manages to combine a light and easy-to-carry design with a robust shell that protects it from damage when you're out and about. The selection of software included with the drive is simple to use, yet still useful, and the transfer rates over USB 3.0 are very good.

Test: Western Digital My Passport Slim 2TB (WDBPDZ0020BAL) (Externe Festplatten 2,5 Zoll)

CHIP Online
16 November 2013
  • Cons: Nicht rutschfest
