Excerpt: The Western Digital 1 TB My Book World is an excellent external storage drive. I set mine up on my network and have been mostly pleased. There is an issue I encountered with Windows 7 that makes it need some special handling -...
Excerpt: Needed a lot of storage for several computers for music, video, podcast, and pictures. All computers can access the drive through the network media players can use as default folders and you can access it on the Internet through mio net which is nice but not great better off using log me in or...
Summary: Installshield crashed almost everytime I ran a build on my software. I think I gave it too much work to do. It was always backing up something. I pulled the drives and now use them for independent backup. Maybe someday I will put a couple of drives back in and try again.
Summary: This is the first time I'm setting up a NAS for use at home. The plan is to use the World Edition II as both backup and to play movies & music on the TV via the PS3. The backup part seems to work fine. I can easily see what files are in the first RAID drive, but unfortunately, the World Edition II doesn't allow me to connect to the backup RAID drive, so I can't tell if the RAID is working correctly and duplicating everything perfectly.
Summary: Bad reviews had me swaying back and forth on this one. I bought it, got it quickly with superb help in placing the order. The set-up was a little tedious as the drive was not recognized right away and took a few tries. Once it was up and running, it was fine. The "inch-worm" LED is a little freaky to watch.
Summary: The processor in the this NAS is slow, and it's not Gigabit ethernet capable as advertsied. The port is Gigabit but the chip can't handle it. This is probably plug and play for many users, but the bad documentation means that anyone who is not tech savvy will probably end up returning it. That's a real waste for WD and its resellers.
Summary: I recently lost over 20,000 photos due to a drive failure of another manufacturer. This will give me the piece of mind that it will not happen to me again. The wireless feature is great, not the fastest thing around but serves the need.
