Summary: The My Book line goes to sleep FAST. If you're using it to store graphics or video that you're using in a program like Photoshop or Adobe Premiere, you'll constantly have to re-wake the drive. Someone told me this is because this line of drives is primarily intended for storage.
Summary: This is my second WD My Book Studio. I have been pleased so far with WD drives in general and with this drive in particular. I fired it up and it shows no bad sectors. BUT… you should be aware that the drive ships with ESSENTIALLY NO WARRANTY.
Summary: I was told after I bought this from a friend who worked at APPLE this was the worst drive to buy. It died (no Power) and I've lost everything. Western Digital sent me a new power source. Still nothing. They are making me pay for date recovery which can cost up to $1000.
Summary: Firewire and USB is great. I have both FireWire 800 and 400 so connections can be an issue. I'm using as a travelling backup (Superduper) for 4 macs. My mom and I exchange backup drives. Currently having problems-my 20" Imac Core duo won't startup from this drive.

Summary: got this as a backup for iMac Time Machine. works like a charm and pretty quiet. in my bedroom so that was a big deal. i have it on a shelf on my desk. previous external drive vibrated on the shelf and cause considerable noise.
Summary: At least the drive works.. but the software is supposed to be what you are paying for. the aluminum housing is great and because of that and the fact that it works for my needs I give it 3 eggs.

My first impression was nice, it was a small heavy box, and everything was packaged well,, to the extent shipping would have a hard time damaging it. The hard drive comes in a thick aluminum casing, which is premium in my opinion. aft...
Cons: My second impression was not so good. the provided 3ft usb cable had a real hard time fitting into the back of the drive. This connector is far from new to me,, and I was really concerned and then it finally went in. I have yet to take it out. Then.. I plug the drive into my computer, and (as i h...
