Pros: The drive is designed for use with Mac. It's formatted for Mac (HFS+J). Very fast with USB3 (145 MB/s read/write).
Cons: No windows software included (but can be downloaded from wd.com). Instructions for reformatting drive for windows are on a PDF on the Mac-formatted drive. And even then, the instructions say to go to wd.com and read knowledge base article 3865, which is the Microsoft instructions for using Disk Manager in Windows. Also, there is no firewire connection or cable as shown in the Newegg pictures. It's strictly USB only.
Summary: the provided 3ft usb cable had a real hard time fitting into the back of the drive. This connector is far from new to me,, and I was really concerned and then it finally went in. I have yet to take it out.
Pros: I received this as part of the newegg eggxpert review program.
Pros: Aluminum Case looks really nice and should allow the internal drive to run cooler. Drive is fairly quick reading and writing transfered some jpg. files and some mp3's to it from an internal drive about 6gb of music took about 2.0-2.5 minutes, jpg files took about 1.0 -1.5 minutes to transfer about 3gb of them. External drive to External drive one USB 3.0 and the other USB 2.0 took about 1.5-2.0 times as long as did the internal to external drive this would be a normal...
Cons: This drive came to me formatted for use in a Mac and so it had to be reformatted and installed into my Windows 7 PC, not much trouble for me but to a new user it could be a nightmare for them!!So I deducted an egg for this .
Pros: Great look with my mac. the minimalistic design and matching aluminum looks nice. I bought this to back up my mac after i had to replacd my hard drive because it was one in the seagate hard drive replacement program
Cons: need to also plug into wall other than firewire port
Summary: We've been using this as a backup to our server, with a partition set up as a clone of the server (run manually) and a second partition set for daily, automatic backups. It's run flawlessly, and in fact for "fun" I ran our server off it for two weeks at my high school instead of the built-in RAID array. It ran just as well.
