Summary: It's become more difficult to find FireWire drives - especially quality drives like WD. I needed a quick external drive for my wife's iMac - she works in photography, so transfer rate is a big issue. Her mac doesn't have USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt drives are still relatively expensive.
Summary: The My Book line goes to sleep FAST. If you're using it to store graphics or video that you're using in a program like Photoshop or Adobe Premiere, you'll constantly have to re-wake the drive. Someone told me this is because this line of drives is primarily intended for storage.
Summary: had this drive for two years. tough as nails and performed great...until it got taken out in a lightning store (and yes, i had a surge protectors, that also got fried). shed a few tears when this old buddy keeled over, will probably buy another one

Summary: Working great so far, this is a vast improvement over my previous WD 2TB My Book Studio, which crashed and lost most of my data, and was never truly Mac friendly, even though it had firewire, the utility packages on the WD site where mostly geared to windows.
Summary: If you have large files to back up, such as home videos, this is a great way to do it. This HD has FireWire, so it works well with a Mac and has good data transfer speed. I have several of these and love them.
Summary: This is my second WD My Book Studio. I have been pleased so far with WD drives in general and with this drive in particular. I fired it up and it shows no bad sectors. BUT… you should be aware that the drive ships with ESSENTIALLY NO WARRANTY.
Summary: I ordered this drive because it has firewire connections which I need for a video project next week using a mac. the model that arrived did not have firewire ports and instead had usb 3. If they were out of stock or this was a newer model I should have been informed before shipping.
