Summary: 1TB, Very Industrial Looking,Strong, but works fine. Power Supply Plug meaning it hogs an outlet space or strip space. Firewire 800 - great. Let you know in 5 years if its great...a good drive should last that long for sure nowday. For this mfgr, my odds have been 50:50.
Summary: This item is labeled as MAC use but doesn't speak about PC at all - if you have a firewire card/connection on your x86, x64 machine then you can use this external drive. I purposely look for firewire devices as this has proven useful for streaming video/audio on my home network. This drive is about 60% full and I have no issues with access speed across the network for streaming. Easy setup and fancy external look. Would purchase again.
Summary: I have had two of these so far and both of them have crashed. The first one was under warranty and the company replaced it but i lost everything because they won't pay for recovery. The replacement worked for about 2 years as well but the replacements have a shorter warranty and the 2nd one just crashed. Luckily I didn't fully trust the company after the first one and have been backing up all of my information on a second external hard drive to be extra safe.
Summary: This hard drive is not ready to be in the marketplace. I apparently have the same issues with the rebooting that everyone else is reporting on. The rebooting issue appears to be very common creating an unreliable hard drive. More frustrating than anything else.
Summary: Had problems with device powering on. I believe the metal enclosure causes the power supply to short out when connecting it. Had this problem on two separate drives. Poor experience with WD tech support. Also, read / write performance is marginal. I have been a WD customer for many years and it seems the quality is not what is used to be.
Summary: my western digital does its job its quick and easy just take it out the box and plug in the cables to your computer and your western digital and your good to go and who ever is shipping this item i think its beachbody cams but they are no joke i order my book during the day and i got it fast
Summary: I came back to purchase a 2nd drive and noticed some of these negative reviews. I've had very good experience with mine (2TB purchased 9 mod ago), plugged in via Firewire 800 to early 09 Mac Mini, it stores my users accounts while the SSD I installed in the Mini runs everything else. The drive has been fast, quiet and no problems. I don't like the Western Digital software that pops up on reboot, wish there was a way to disable that..
Summary: When it worked it worked just fine. Began powering down without warning after about a month and eventually would not power on any more. Still covered by warranty but I get the pleasure of paying to ship it back to the manufacturer. Also got to purchase a new firewire cable and power adapter to ensure the drive unit was what was defective.
Summary: I use this hard drive on a late 2010 iMac and I couldn't be happier with it. The size, speed and looks make it a joy to have on my desk. I use it solely to store my movie collection, which I have ripped and re-encoded. In total, the movies barely take up half the hard drive but relieving my iMac of that 1.5TB burden was necessary to keep it functioning as an audio workstation.
