Western Digital 320 GB USB Desktop External Hard Drive

31 March 2013
Summary: The Western Digital My Book Studio 320 GB USB 2.0/FireWire 400/800/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive is excellent. It loaded up - activated - immediately upon connecting the USB wire and turning on the computer. I have used it almost daily since I purchased it, on December 31, 2008, with no problems.
Excerpt: I've tried using this hard drive on my Mac. It's made for a Mac, but doesn't work with OS X Lion and am still waiting for updated drivers. I'm going to give it 30-days and if there is no updated driver I'm going to return it and get something different.
Excerpt: I love this machine. Its serviced me well and has lots of clever features. I like how it wakes up when needed and sleeps when its not. Its quiet. The newer ones have clear LCD screens and more storage capacity. I recommend them to all my friends and family...
Excerpt: A little bit dissapointed theres no light to indicate raid status on the drive itself, since i run it connected to my Airport Extreme, i need to connect it to my computer to check it with "WD Drive Manager".
Summary: About a week after I bought this item, I needed to replace the hard drive in my laptop. Using the Western Digital My Book, I was able to transfer all my data flawlessly and easily. I think that's the test of whether or not it works.
Summary: I had a problem with the drive on my Mac dual g5. It would not stay mounted on the desk top. I called for help and was forwarded to level 2 support when the first level support could not help. The problem seem to be resolved by plugging the power transformer directly into the wall outlet rather then into a power strip. I think that they should supply a power transformer that is more robust. Other drives work fine with the power strip I used.
