Terrific NAS Drives
10 October 2014
Summary: I have six of these My Book Live Duo drives - three 6TB, and three 8TB; all are set up with RAID mirroring (and I do an additional backup of each drive on six single drive My Book Live drives which are connected one at a time to the USB 3 on the primary computer, and takes between an hour or two for minor updates, to about 24 hrs to backup a drive on which the file/folder structure has been changed).
These large external storage devices are fairly well designed and easy to use.

Summary: If one uses a NAS then this is moderately priced and durable. The associated software works easily. A word of caution is to be careful shutting one down without following their exact instructions.
Summary: This little box packs a punch. Inside there are 2 four TB drives that can be set up as Rad 0 or Raid 1 array. Inside there is a PPC 32 bit processor with a Debian 5 Linux distribution. It is fully Linux compatible, you can ssh to the box an administer it as any Linux server. You can use nfs to export shares to legacy systems and samba to share to your Winblows PCs or Macs. Highly recommend it!
Summary: WD is a brand you can rely on. The raid makes it perfect reliable storage. NAS is the way to share on home networks. Cloud is great way to extend share to smart devices as well as remote access.
