Summary: I do not use the WD included software, so I am not commenting on that. I use the Backup utility included with Windows 7. The Windows Backup and Restore function is a perfectly good backup system, and I use it 3 or 4 times a month to create backups of all files in my libraries and to create a system image. I disconnect this drive when not backing up or restoring files because my greatest concern for loss is from lightening.
Summary: This is my first external HD, and I'm happy with it. I use it just for storage, no for constantly backing up my stuff! Something I read about it, was some kind of problem with the software, so, I haven't install it. Working good!!
Summary: This is my second Western Digital Back UP Drive. I have one for each of my notebooks. My decision to buy a second WD product was based on my experience with the first one. It is easy to install, easy to backup, and sold at a reasonable price. When it comes to data, there is nothing more important than a good backup. If you don't believe it; just wait until your pc crashes and your crying in your beer because you have lost years of pictures and data.
Summary: I AM PLEASED WITH THE UNIT,,ALL MY DRIVES ARE WESTERN DIGITAL ,, AND HAVE STAYED WITH THIS PRODUCT ALL ALONG. I USE IT WITH A SWITCH PANEL,,,AND CAN TURN ON OR OFF ANY OF MY HARD DRIVES AS NEEDED. LOVE THE SPACE AVAIL ON THE DRIVE..COULD USE MORE.
Summary: I first tried the software that came with the WD drive. It was an easy install, probably took just a couple of minutes. The interface is OK, pretty straightforward. I like the feature that you can customize the label, so now it says "nuknuk" on the outside. Even during transport where I unplugged the drive completely, you can still see the label and how much space there is remaining.
Summary: I purchased the 1TB Book Elite for use as my primary external hard drive to store my Itunes media library. Hooked it up yesterday and reformatted to MAC OS Extended (Journaled). Then I changed my Itunes library location setting to the new hard drive and used Organize Library in Itunes to move all my medial to the new location. I have about 400GB, so it took a couple hours. Checked it out this morning - everything is working great.
