Good drive

Tim B., Amazon
5 November 2013
  • Summary: Got this really cheap in a amazon lightning deal. For the cost of £32.99 it's great. The cable is a bit weird in that it implies that it needs to connect to 2 USB ports...maybe one for data and one for power. But, I've just been connecting the one on my laptop and it seems perfectly happy. Can only assume maybe older devices or maybe hubs won't power it. Does make the cable a bit ungainly. Casing is nice, as it is metal. Has performed fine so far.

No UK 3 pin plug supplied, fitted with European 2 pin plug

SurreyHills, Amazon
26 December 2012
  • Summary: I had a New Toshiba 3.5" USB Hard Disc Drive 2TB STOR.E ALU 2 as a Christmas Present, purchased through Amazon. When opening the box I was extremely disappointed to discover that it only had a mains adapter fitted with a 2 round pin European type plug instead of a standard UK 3 pin plug.

Super product - stupid plug

Stuart R, Amazon
1 February 2012
  • Summary: Doing exactly what I wanted it to - already used 1TB on video tape back up (60 minute DV High Definition tape takes about 15 minutes but each is 11.2 gb). But what a silly plug. Do Toshiba get any feed back from Amazon sellers? If they do they must be urged to include a British plug adaptor in future.

  • Summary: This item was very good value for money. Works well, it is not slow and I never had problems until now. I would recommend if you want something that does the job.

Great - but Mac users be aware...

nielsrey "NB", Amazon
9 August 2011
  • Summary: Very pleased (eventually) with these drives. Having read reviews on Amazon that these worked out of the box on Macs, I bought 2 to backup my iMac, which I use for work - one on site and one off, swapping once a week. So I was very disappointed to discover that I couldn't use them on the Mac at all, as supplied. The drive icon appeared on the desktop, and I could read the files already on the drives (including the PDF manual), but was unable to write to the drives.

Handy

Joseph O., Amazon
20 July 2011
  • Summary: It was my first external hard drive and I'm shocked at how efficient it is. I was expecting it to come with complicated manuals and CD for installations but it didn't. My younger sibling in the early teens uses it frequently and has never even looked at the manual, that's how easy it's to use, you just have to plug it to the PC. The blue led in front does give it a sophisticated look while the metal looking case seems scratch resistant.

Outstanding performance

gingernob, Amazon
17 April 2011
  • Summary: This drive performs to a high standard and true to its marketing blurb, left on for days at an end and still does not get hardly warm. I have had a Maxtor 500Gb drive for very long time which tends to get very warm after long periods or exception disk activity, where this Toshiba drive does not. Only negative is the lack of auto power off feature. It would have definitely been a 5 star if it had this, to conserve energy and probably life expectancy.

Does what it does.

K. Hung "Kenny", Amazon
8 April 2011
  • Summary: External hard drive with quite a stylish design. Speed of actual drive is lower than is stated, but if you just want a storage space, this works fine. Power plug is European, but you are supplied with an adaptor.

Brillant except...

David Birch, Amazon
1 December 2010
  • Summary: The HDD itself is brillant, I've bought older versions in the past and i've stuck with them ever since. However, it didn't arrive with a UK power adaptor. I decided to just buy a plug adaptor since the postage to return it would be just as much. I bought it from one of the third parties rather than direct from amazon so that might be the reason why. The Hard Drive itself is a really good NTFS HDD and worth having.
