Excerpt: The Toshiba Canvio Portable Hard Drive is not very user friendly. The instructions with the device were very minimal especially for someone who doesn't have a lot of technical knowledge. l My other experience was with a Seagate Drive and it was so much easier to use and check the data contained within. I have always thought the highest of Toshiba products and before this one they have all over performed. Sadly this one is has been a disappointment for me.
Summary: Light, portable, fast storage is flat out a great idea. Making it wireless so you don't have to have a connection to your phone or tablet is making it even better. So, it's great thing to try, right? Well, yes & no. Because it's using WIFI, you sort of have to make a choice, which are you going to use, the internet or the device. That right there is pretty limiting. Then, the fact that I wasn't able to connect it to all my devices was disappointing.
Summary: The wireless SSD function is useless with Windows. There is no Windows 8 app or Windows Phone app to view the SSD content wirelessly. I can connect to the SSID, login as admin, view the SSD via standard browser, change password, etc. But the UI drop down is not working properly with IE 10, e.g. when setting the time zone. I am using this solely as external SSD via USB cable.
Summary: I had a Toshiba Satellite 1805 laptop years ago and it was terrible. Decided to give Toshiba a second chance. I should've trusted my gut and bought a Western Digital.
Pros: Cheap. Did have 1 TB storage as described.
Cons: Repeatedly drops from PC. Asks to be formatted constantly. Detachable cable becomes unplugged easily. Unreliable. Slow transfer speed (20 MBps on USB 3.0 port) Toshiba's answer for warranty is replacement or coupon.
Excerpt: I liked the size and possibitlites for easy carry around. However things did not turn out that way. Don't waste your money on this drive. It worked on once computer for less than a week. On the second computer it worked once. It was not recognized by either of my computers after two weeks and numerous attempts. I contacted Toshiba Tech support and advised me to take it back. I will be exchanging it for a different unit.
Excerpt: The hardware is acceptable. The software however is interesting. The day you install it you start getting popups trying to sell you an upgraded version of the software. It is annoying because it just keeps popping up. The original software does not include the ability to make it your default backup. In my opinion a product purchased new should have the latest and complete version of software with it. Also if left connected between backups it vibrates continually.
The drive is not compatible with some USB 2.0 ports

Summary: Dose not work properly on some of the older USB 2.0 It works 100% on USB 3.0 but I would definitely avoid this one if all your devices(computers, dvd player, media player) are USB 2.0 and get the Canvio Basic instead.
Excerpt: I purchased this as a way to back up my XP computer until I could purchase a new one. So far, the process has been challenging to say the least. Apparently, the software installed, but I have yet to be able to complete a back up. On the main screen, it tells me that the External Disk is "unavailable" even when the product is connected with the USB.
