Summary: This was a gift from my brother to use for my music files. The 1st trouble was the usb cord if slightly (and I mean slightly) touched, would show the hard drive was no longer connected. After a phone request for another cable, 6 months later one shows up. Then I can't read the drive anymore, tried it on 4 different computers both at home and work, still won't show up. I figure it lost my vote,so breaking it open to void the warranty didn't matter, so I did.
Summary: Toshiba asks for a credit card to send you another replacement or just plain wait till they send u a voucher to " buy anything from their Toshiba direct" PFFFTTT!!! How about u send me a replacement now and let me re-back it up to my WESTERN DIGITAL.. Talk about that ughhhhh feeling.
Pros: Newegg shipped fairly quick, great price...Just the product was lacking... I have had it since February 22, 2013.. And it crapped out this past weekend, when I most depended on it to function properly.. Lost all my music files.. (cursing still in silence)
Cons: Lost all my music files.. (cursing still in silence)
Summary: I purchased this hard drive and had nothing but problems getting it to connect to my PC. It would work intermittently and I always thought that perhaps my USB 3.0 wasn't giving it enough power for the drive to power on. Finally the day came where my PC wouldn't recognize the drive at all and I thought the drive had finally died on me.
Summary: I’ve had several system crashes & reboots when the computer is doing time consuming tasks, with the Windows warning that there was a possible hardware problem. These problems stopped as soon as I disconnected the Toshiba from my computer. I’m using XP SP3 with HDD set to never power down, & Toshiba lists this drive as compatible with XP.
Pros: Copying files from an internal drive to the external Toshiba using a USB 3.0 port, I averaged a little over 50 MB/s using TeraCopy. Being able to view a 2GB video file, jumping from place to place was only a small fraction of a second slower than viewing the same file from an internal drive. It comes with its own NTI backup software. It backed up 12.09GB of mixed data in 4min57sec. There is no file compression option. The backup software is easy to setup & use. I use ...
Cons: Due to problems when this drive is connected, I only connect it when I need to add or recovers something from it.
Excerpt: I've owned quite a few external drives in the past, however this is the first Toshiba I've had. Over all it does what it should in a backup drive. No frills, a solid design, just a block with a USB port and one for the included power supply. Plug it in and it was immediately seen by my Mac Pro,(it comes formatted in Windows NTFS which can be read by Macs but not written to without additional software.
Summary: Unless you plan on using this as a bigflash drive and keep really good file organization then don't bother. The backupsystem on this device is awful. The sofware is lacking and the options for how to do backups are slim to none. And when I actually needed to restore from this piece of garbage.I couldn't because the link and drivers went down with my laptops failed hdd so I can't even restore. what is the point of this pile?
Summary: The cable on this unit is very short and evidently Toshiba has bad suppliers or QC. Intermittent connection problem caused crashing and required reformat of drive. This reformat resulted in 'loss' of whatever backup software was initially shipped on the drive.
