  • Summary: I normally use Western Digital HDD & Ive never had a problem with those & Ive used many for years. But apparently, Walmart has stopped carrying WD as there were none in the stores I checked & they do not have them online. Thats a pity. However, I needed a drive right away & decided to use this Toshiba Canvio 3TB. I have a Toshiba Satellite thats been a great laptop so I felt it was a good chance to take.

does not stay running

James L., Newegg
16 March 2014
  • Pros: Fast, large capacity, USB3
  • Cons: Does not like to stay active. If you aren't using it, drive likes to SHUT DOWN. The only way to get it running again is to pull the power then reattach. Not at all useful when you are 50 or 60 miles away from the computer, trying to access it remotely. Toshiba needs to make the power management ****CONFIGURABLE*****. And we're not talking abouyt some MSWin or Mac OSX-only utilities either.

  • Summary: Shipped very fast and arrived early so great job on walmart's end As for Toshiba Price seemed really good but the 3rd party software it uses is junk and keeps backing up stuff it should not be backing up resulting in hard drive filled after only a few backups with no way to delete the files without damaging it Poor installation instructions with no installation software I had to go to Toshibas website and get it then it was just a mess installing.

  • Summary: Immediately after installing supplied software, the Windows 7 operating system on my computer was corrupted. All attempts to use backups, restore or re-image hard drive failed. With no other option, I took computer to local computer repair shop. Scan of new drive I purchased from Walmart indicated seven (7) viruses embedded on the drive. It took specialized software to clean my computer. My computer was at repair shop for 3 days. Cost me $75.00 for service.

  • Summary: This is the best priced 2TB external that I've seen, however, I would pay extra to get something more reliable. When I was copying large amounts of data from my other external to this one, it kept getting an error message...something about the folder not being found. I read reviews indicating that it may not work on some 2.0 USBs, so plugged it into my 3.0 USB port but the Toshiba had issues copying over my data and kept disconnnecting.

Don't purchase

ram67e, Staples
19 February 2014
  • Excerpt: I've purchased about 10 of these drives for backup. Two have failed and I've lost much data. If you check out other sources it's not uncommon. And if you go to the Toshiba site and enter the SN, you get the message that it's not a Toshiba product. Thus, if you purchase this product I would get another brand to back it up as you're rolling the dice with an inferior product. I won't purchase Tobshiba product after this experience.
  • Pros: Easy To Set Up, Price
  • Cons: 2 Drives Failed, Not Made By Toshiba, No Toshiba Support, Sn Don't Belong To Toshib
