Summary: well i thought i could save game institution data but instead its a glorified usb flash drive never going to use 500 G's of songs pic's or movies in my life time didn't have a computer so waited a week to use my bros an format my sony EHDD to fat.32 just 4 my ps3 to even accept that it even works as a HDD but its not even a HDD its a usb stick for 78 bux overnighted
Summary: Quick ship. Plugged in to my sony vaio and started saving pictures, songs, and video clips from my computer and jump drives. Transfer time was fast enough for me, but I don't necessarily have the highest expectations. Used the standard NTFS format rather than changing to FAT32. For plain ol file storage, nobody could give me a brilliant reason for one way or the other. The size and weight for this much storage is fascinating to me and it seems like high quality to me.
Summary: This is a really good hard drive. As for the speeds, it is consistently getting on or more than 100 MB/s read and write speeds in small sequential disk speed tests, and at least 80 MB/s while transferring large files over USB 3.0, on USB 2.0 it can get around 35 MB/s sequential. I am not using the included software on this drive, and it is formatted in FAT32 (I don't think this affects the speeds though) The speeds are on par with the other USB 3.0 NTFS drives that I...
Summary: Love the design and form factor. It's fast with my old Macbook's USB 2.0. It has four soft feet on the bottom side. I've love/hate relationship with the feet. Update Feb. 20, 2014: It just crashed. I was using it as an external drive for iTunes.
Summary: The Sony 500gb External Hard Drive is a real work horse. It requires no formatting. It has some utilities installed in it you can open and use if you like. If you choose not to use the advanced utilities, that's okay too. A good buy on the Sony, best price on the net.
Summary: This hard drive is gorgeous... as usually Sony makes beautiful products. The hard drive is made of brushed heavy black aluminum and it looks like it's made with top quality materials. While the hardware is wonderful looking, as usual Sony mucks it up with catastrophic software. I would recommend this hard drive only if you are planning to use it as a simple drag and drop hard drive and erase the awful software this comes with.
