Summary: I had two of these and they worked well. At the time I was travelling internationally and needed files that I could carry reliably. However, the problem began when I was at my own office. The drive fell approximately 18 inches to the carpeted floor while connected. After that it ceased working. I had to pay huge price to a third party company to retrieve my valuable data.
Mac G4 laptop doesn't provide enough power thru USB

Summary: I've used a 40G Smart disk with Firewire for several years and it works great. I needed a larger drive for my music collection and since I only have one FW port on my Mac G4 laptop I got this USB model. It just spins and chirps because it doesn't have enough power through the USB port. It would probably work great on any desktop or a more recent Mac laptop. The product is great and I recommend it otherwise. Also, their return policy is fast, easy and done online.
Summary: I have a 40 gig and an 80 gig of this particular device. Both are USB models. I would like Firewire, but my laptop does not have Firewire access so I need something that will work between the two without extra equipment. See my review of the problems with the 40 gig. However, this drive has performed flawlessly. I hesitate to recommend it because of problems with the 40 gig. BE VERY CAREFUL and ensure this device does not get dropped or jarred.

Summary: Nice drive. Problem when daisy chain two drive together. XP will lose connection with the two drives. I guess it draw too much power and the firewire can't handle it. As a result, the drives shut themselves down.
