Summary: Streaming songs and pictures was straight forward. It has taken me a while to figure out the movies however (I think). But I finally get it to stream wirelessly the movies I bought through iTunes. Unfortunately, it seems to work with iOS BEFORE 7.2.1, NOT AFTER. I get it to play on my iPhone which has iOS 7.1.1; but not on my iPad mini which has iOS 8.1.2. I found a reply from Seagate on one of the Q&A.

Summary: At present. ITunes DRM protected videos are currently not playing on iOS 7.2.1 and iOS 8 devices when the files are saved to this device. Seagate and Apple are aware of this but there in no fix yet. The drive is a solid device with plenty of storage. I hope that Seagate will get it working shorlty.
Excerpt: This is great for using as an external storage drive, but you cannot (says so on the box) use it for time machine back-up. It comes formatted for Windows/PC, but the install was still easy on a Mac. We haven't been able to get the wireless portion working, which may be a result of our using a mac not a pc.
Pros: Attractive Design, Compact, High Capacity, Portable, Quiet
Summary: Just received this product. So easy to set up with my IPad Air. Positives: Has a built in battery so if you are on the move you can still play your movies. Negatives: The Seagate software does play many file types, so just make sure you have VLC installed and access the video content through the local network, if needed. Great for view Microsoft Office documents too. Definatly, the way to go if you wanted to extend your storage space for your IPad.
Excerpt: I hate! The connection failed at all times I used. After the connection fails, the device is not recognized, so do not reestablish the connection until you restart the iphone, computer or tablet. It does not have an efficient system to turn off. Even if you do not want to use the device remains active wasting the battery (would last 10 hours...).
Cons: Difficult To Use, Inefficient, Unreliable, Unstable
Summary: My problem was simple. We RV all over the country in retirement, and the most reliable way to maintain an internet connection is via a mobile hotspot, in our case a Verizon MIFI 4510. It's fine for most emails, though I've learned not to open those with numerous hi-res photos, or lengthy videos. The problem is, of course, that those data intensive items burn through my data plan like crazy.
Summary: I purchased this product because I thought it would be great to use on trips to store more movies than my 16 GB iPad. Documentation is very cryptic to use from a Mac Mini. At first it worked OK from the iPad but when it would not play from the Mac Mini I contacted Seagate support. The had me reformat the drive and install updated firmware. Now it plays on the MAC mini but the video jitters when played with Quicktime.
