Very slow for a USB 3 drive
Peter S, Apple Store
12 April 2015
Summary: Bought at Apple store, but it has been a disappointment. So far it has been reliable. I use 2 as backups for my 2015 photo library. Copying from one to the other seems extremely slow. while its size is nice, its slowness makes it inconvenient from my viewpoint.
Summary: I am disappointed in how much time this took to back up my files. Granted, I have an older desktop with Windows XP and USB 2.0, but it took 4 days of running 24 hours a day to back up about 600 GB.
Summary: Expected more from Seagate. Product is OK, but (at least) the photo leads you to think the casing is metallic - which would be prettier and would keep the drive cooler. But no, it's not. Just plastic. Also the USB 3.0 cable is very short - like 6 inches or so. Very annoying !
Summary: I've had great experiences with Seagate drives so I bought this drive to back up my iMac, purchased in fall 2012. Thinking that an iMac running Mountain Lion was a newer computer, I thought the USB 3.0 would be okay. Wrong!
Summary: The dashboard 2.0 once installed is almost impossible to uninstall. After 4 support calls and the purchase of a registry cleaner it seems to be uninstalled. Do not install the dashboard. It is not up to the job. Use MS Windows 7. Much better...
Summary: This sort of drive isn't a new idea. A laptop-class hard drive is placed inside a USB-powered enclosure. As in any case, there are tradeoffs. Low power means low speed. Although real specifications are rarely available for drives of this type, it's safe to say that rotational speed is well under 5K.
Summary: I purchased this drive to store my music exclusively and use my Mac Mini to transfer the data to our Sony streaming divice via wireless router. It was easy to set up, seemingly well made, compact and ready to go....however!
Summary: It is a nice, little, quiet running drive, except it wouldn't allow me to backup the data files on my old system and restore them to my new system. It looks like the backup software is designed to be used only to backup data from one system and restore that data back to the same system.
