Easy to use, but slow using USB 2.0
14 January 2014
Summary: I am disappointed in how much time this took to back up my files. Granted, I have an older desktop with Windows XP and USB 2.0, but it took 4 days of running 24 hours a day to back up about 600 GB.
Summary: I purchased this drive to store my music exclusively and use my Mac Mini to transfer the data to our Sony streaming divice via wireless router. It was easy to set up, seemingly well made, compact and ready to go....however! Recently, I've been noticing an odd chirping sound at random times and a flickering LED light. I did a cursory web search and found this was caused by the reading head sticking.
Summary: This sort of drive isn't a new idea. A laptop-class hard drive is placed inside a USB-powered enclosure. As in any case, there are tradeoffs. Low power means low speed. Although real specifications are rarely available for drives of this type, it's safe to say that rotational speed is well under 5K. I have a number of similar drives and all are faster that this one. But the big problem is that this particular drive doesn't work.
Summary: It is a nice, little, quiet running drive, except it wouldn't allow me to backup the data files on my old system and restore them to my new system. It looks like the backup software is designed to be used only to backup data from one system and restore that data back to the same system. I spent a lot of time with tech support while they tried to find a way to get it to work, without success.
Summary: I intended to use this as a backup but have ended up keeping copies of my folders and files on it - I couldn't get the Seagate software backup suite to work with Windows 8 either to take backu0s or to retrieve them.
Summary: this drive arrived on time and packed ok. tried it on 2 desktops with usb3 ports and a laptop with usb2 ports , could not get it over 30MB/s. when i ran hwinfo 64 it identified the drive as being a usb2 device. eveything i have read about usb3 says that the 5gb/s maximum speed is a dream. i might add that seagate are my preferred drives so i am a little disappointed.
Summary: My dislike of this product is because the USB lead that connects it to the computer is not fit for purpose. Pressure needs to be applied to the USB connection to keep it provide with power. The company that sold it have prevaricated over what was wrong with it and seem to be stalling over refunding payment. After numerous phone call thry have offered a refund but it appears to be seven pounds lighter than the original amount.
Pros: Компактный, малошумный.
Cons: Люфт на месте подключения кабеля из-за сменной панели, ненадежный оригинальный кабель, модель оказалась ненадежной
