Easy to use, but slow using USB 2.0

Bob, rakuten
14 January 2014
  • Summary: I am disappointed in how much time this took to back up my files. Granted, I have an older desktop with Windows XP and USB 2.0, but it took 4 days of running 24 hours a day to back up about 600 GB.

  • Summary: It did not work for my computer and I was very disappointed. Wasn't compatible or something with my computer. It might work for someone else.

Expected more ...

Martin, Amazon
11 April 2013
  • Summary: Expected more from Seagate. Product is OK, but (at least) the photo leads you to think the casing is metallic - which would be prettier and would keep the drive cooler. But no, it's not. Just plastic. Also the USB 3.0 cable is very short - like 6 inches or so. Very annoying ! Update: One of the partitions (I repartitioned the drive) somehow lost its content (my personal data). I was eventually able to fix it, but it made not trust this drive as the sole backup drive !

WATCH OUT iMac users!

Dallas reader, Amazon
15 March 2013
  • Summary: I've had great experiences with Seagate drives so I bought this drive to back up my iMac, purchased in fall 2012. Thinking that an iMac running Mountain Lion was a newer computer, I thought the USB 3.0 would be okay. Wrong! Within a few minutes, I got a message that the drive had been ejected improperly. This froze the Finder and required turning off the computer to reboot. I tried numerous fixes and still the drive ejected and the computer froze over and over.

Nice Drive with Horrible Software and Support

Henry Tharp, Amazon
8 March 2013
  • Summary: The dashboard 2.0 once installed is almost impossible to uninstall. After 4 support calls and the purchase of a registry cleaner it seems to be uninstalled. Do not install the dashboard. It is not up to the job. Use MS Windows 7. Much better...

Good idea, poorly done::UPDATE

Amazon
24 February 2013
  • Summary: This sort of drive isn't a new idea. A laptop-class hard drive is placed inside a USB-powered enclosure. As in any case, there are tradeoffs. Low power means low speed. Although real specifications are rarely available for drives of this type, it's safe to say that rotational speed is well under 5K. I have a number of similar drives and all are faster that this one. But the big problem is that this particular drive doesn't work.

Chirpy, chirpy, chirpidy chirp!

Square Shiny, Amazon
30 October 2012
  • Summary: I purchased this drive to store my music exclusively and use my Mac Mini to transfer the data to our Sony streaming divice via wireless router. It was easy to set up, seemingly well made, compact and ready to go....however! Recently, I've been noticing an odd chirping sound at random times and a flickering LED light. I did a cursory web search and found this was caused by the reading head sticking.

I am not keeping it.

James Carter "JC", Amazon
3 July 2012
  • Summary: It is a nice, little, quiet running drive, except it wouldn't allow me to backup the data files on my old system and restore them to my new system. It looks like the backup software is designed to be used only to backup data from one system and restore that data back to the same system. I spent a lot of time with tech support while they tried to find a way to get it to work, without success.
