Summary: I bought this drive to store my entire music/movies library. It died on the second day - Disk Utility recognizes it, but is unable to repair it. A giant waste of money - I will be taking it back to Apple and spending twice the amount on a G-drive, which have a far better track record.
Summary: On the first day that I bought the external hard drive, whenever I connected it to my Mac Mini, I lost my internet connection. The only way to restore the connection was to physically disconnect the USB cable to the hard drive, turn off the Mac Mini and then turn the Mac Mini back on. I was on the phone with Apple Support for 1.5 hours in an attempt to resolve this. Unfortunately, they could not determine why this was occurring so the problem could not be corrected.
Summary: I've been using this HDD for about 6 months and it has been excellent. It's one of two Seagate hard drives that I purchased to back up sensitive information for a project I'm working on and I've found every feature to be easy to use. The encryption software is easy to set up and the hard drive itself is dependable. I have not experienced any of the issues the other reviews on here have complained about.
Summary: Purchased for Time Machine back up on iMac. From the start drive would mount, run for a time, then unmount by itself. Would not pass the Seagate Dashboard provided diagnostic test. Covered under warranty and replaced but after reading other reviews, don't expect any long-term reliability.
Summary: I used this as a backup for my photography, after 5 months it started freezing my computer and eventually failed completely. It crashed my Macbook Pro twice and actually crashed the tech company's computer, too. Lost everything on it. Don't invest in this hard drive.
Summary: Well, first off, this device only has 465GB on it, not 500GB. So I've been cheated out of 35GB. Also I have an Acer laptop with Windows 8, and even though it connects with no problem, I have trouble whenever I right click on it or in it for options. The window just stops responding then closes. So I can't create folders, read document info, or anything like that. I had to organize my stuff and create folders on my desktop for me to drag onto the Seagate.
Summary: I bought mine this past June. It worked fine until a few days ago. I had all my movies, entire life's photo collection, my entire iTunes collection and all of my important documents on it, including the sound files for the music software program Sibelius. I opened Sibelius the other day and that crashed over and over and then I couldn't open up my Final Cut Pro. When I went to eject the disc, the icon wouldn't disappear. Then the computer crashed.
