Do Not Buy This Product.

Summary: Do not buy this product. When I attempted to download the preloaded software, guess what. Not compatible with Windows 8.1. The software that was on the drive was at least two years old. I purchased this item because I believe in Samsung. Not this time. I went to their website to try to download more recent software for the drive. Forget it. I have never written a one star review in the past. This product should not even be sold by Amazon.
Summary: this hard drive was great when i bought it, but now it has randomly stopped working. I'm not the only one that has had this problem. I've looked online and it seems that a lot of people have had this problem.
Summary: Transfer speed is quite fast, everything seemed a-okay, until one day it up and died... about 3 months into ownership. A quick google search of "Samsung M3 portable not recognized" or "beeping" or "dead" tells you all you need to know... only known fix is -- no joke -- smashing it into a wall and hoping for the best. Hasn't worked for me, and as it died while transitioning to my primary backup...
Summary: I am not satisfied at all with the Samsung M3 Hard Drive. After six months of use (as back up drive) it simply stopped functioning. It cannot be recognized by any computer, PC or Mac. Even a Samsung PC will not recognize this external drive. It was kept in a cover, in a drawer, far from shocks or dust.
Summary: The hard disk is not working. It buzzes , but does not detect on any platform Changed the Cable as well , to no effect Looking to return it Amazon delived in 1 day flat , product was a disappointment
Samsung M3 1TB USB 3.0 Slimline Portable Hard Drive FAILURE

Summary: Bought this drive on the 20th September 2013, less than 2 months later DEAD. I was using this on a daily basis as an external storage drive for my laptop which only has a small 120GB SSD drive. I treat my kit with the utmost respect and was surprised that one minute it was working and literally the next DEAD. I took the drive to a Data Recovery service provider who informed me that the drives proprietary USB 3 interface was the problem.
Summary: Like some of the other people who bought this HD only to have it suddenly stop working on them, mines has done just that today. I was using it fine up until a few hours ago until I noticed it was producing a soft clicking sound that I had never heard before. Thinking it best to restart the hard drive and my PC as well, I powered my machine down and turned it back on, only to be greeted by a soft beeping noise from the external hard drive.
Summary: I have learned a harsh lesson over the past few weeks to backup your backup! I had my new Samsung HD only 6 weeks and then it just stopped working. It hadn't even left my house, or been mishandled in anyway, yet it just wouldn't power up. I followed a lot of online DIY diagnostics and it still didn't work. It then took 9 phone calls over a 7 business day period to get to the right person who could help me.
Summary: I've had this model for less than a year and I was very careful with it. I use PC. It suddenly does not appear on the computer when I plug in USB. Volume is not booting, so the data cannot be accessed. Disk Utility will not find the drive. The same result on other computers. I've done more research and found that many others have had this problem with it. Samsung 1TB M3 Portable USB 3.0 Hard Drive Black - HX-M101TCB/G I hope I can be refuned.
