Beware: You can't have two of these on the same network!

Robert B. "Frustrated in Colorado", Amazon
2 August 2014
  • Summary: I have had one of these for several years and would have given it a 5 star rating but when I couldn't get this new one to work, I contacted Seagate and was told "Sadly, because the drives have the same network name hard wired into the unit, it is not possible to have two Goflex Homes on the same network at the same time." While I appreciate the fine customer support, one would think better engineering would have prevent this.

This beast has been fussy the entire time I've owned ...

Alice Day, Amazon
24 July 2014
  • Summary: This beast has been fussy the entire time I've owned it--difficult for any computer to recognize (supposedly the cable is the culprit) and it runs really hot when it is running. Now the drive is just out of warranty, and has become inaccessible--it doesn't have the click of death (yet), but no computer will recognize it. This is my second Seagate drive to do this. Of course, I have not found WD to be any more reliable.

Great idea very poor execution... Not very user friendly or reliable

Santiago I., Amazon
21 July 2014
  • Summary: Product is not easy to configure and stopped working after a few months. After is stopped working I had to reset and now I can't use it at all it says that I don't have the tights to save files even though I am logged in as administrator. Customer support is very basic and slow to respond even with premium membership. The upload of files takes forever wirelessly and when doing the initial back up with lots GB's, the device gets disconnected.

Not a great product

Rajesh, Amazon
17 June 2014
  • Summary: +Ve - setup was easy, price was ok. -ve - its slow while watching HD movies. After 2 years something failed and its not booting up. Customer service asked me to return the product. I am worried about the 3TB data in it. Its tough to identify the issues with the disc as we need separate SATA/USB cable to connect to PC (I am hoping i can do this.) Its slow with copying and reading.

Horrible

Amazon Customer, Amazon
22 March 2014
  • Summary: I don't write many reviews, but this terrible waste of money has motivated me to, just so others don't have to go through the same painful experience that I have. All of the software that comes with this thing is god-awful and buggy. If you want to watch your videos on your mobile device (one of the BIGGEST SELLING POINTS of a product like this) then you're going to have to go through the Seagate app, which is a total mess and can play NONE of my videos because it...

Save yourself a lot of trouble and get something else

TwentyDunhills, Amazon
16 February 2014
  • Summary: This is a terrible network drive. The software that comes with it is rather primitive as well. On the first install it refused to recognize its own drive as being connected. Worked on the second install, but drive is detected intermittently. It will selectively work, or not work, connect or not connect to your network. You can have it fully connected to the router and directly connected to your computer via USB and nothing will recognize the drive..

Not For The Home Network Novice

Boyd Naron, Amazon
1 December 2013
  • Summary: If you are considering a NAS for your home network, in my opinion, this is not the device for you. It's slow, clunky and, in my case, the device failed after only a year. Talk about 'planned obsolescence'. The support web site treats home units as if they are an afterthought. Finding useful documentation on this unit is difficult at best. Also, there is no bit torrent client. Further, DLNA support is not that great either.

Mac users only buy if you are a gambler or have a PC

Captain, Amazon
9 May 2013
  • Summary: If you are a gambler and you luck out the drive will work when you run the GoFlex Home setup application on the GoFlex Home Install CD. I gambled and lost. Got the same problem described elsewhere - "Your GoFlex Home cannot reach seagateshare.com". Disabling all my firewalls did not help. Since I have a Goflex firewire/USB base as well I formatted the drive on my MacPro with Mac OS Extended (journaled) via the Disk utility and the drive worked fine.

Can use only one on home network.

James E. Huwaldt, Amazon
30 April 2013
  • Summary: Works as advertised for one drive. There is no way to use two Goflex Home in one home network due to host name conflict. I bought a second drive, at Amazon, and was unable to use it. After several calls to Seagate it was confirmed I couldn't use it. I then found out that Seagate had no customer service. They said they were sorry but could not help with a return or exchange. The USB ports work, however you cannot check space remaining on the USB drives with Windows.
