Seagate Free Agent GoFlex Home Network Storage System

PC Magazine
25 June 2011
  • Conclusion: Seagate's GoFlex Home consumer HDD-based NAS is feature-rich and a fine performer, but the management interface could be better and the included trial backup software is very basic.
  • Pros: Speedy performance performing file transfers via mapped drives to it. Solid backup, streaming and sharing capabilities. Supports Mac OS X and Windows.
  • Cons: No option to schedule jobs. You must uninstall and re-install software to remove "trail software" status and activate full license. Remote access capabilities not made apparent to end-user in documentation or within interface.

  • Conclusion: What I loved most about the Seagate GoFlex Home is that it can be used for automatic backups or just as a drag and drop extra space. You could easily store all of your music for the house in the folder on the drive and access it from all of your computers or Media Players around the house. With a few tweaks to work out bugs and a full version of the backup software, the Seagate GoFlex Home is the perfect solution to ensure all of your valuable files are protected and...

Network Storage Review: Seagate GoFlex Home

HardwareCentral
16 September 2010
  • Conclusion: As easy as the software is to use, its performance can be slow. It can also tax your computer's processing power and make other applications on your machine a bit sluggish. The Share application is designed to give you a simple interface for sharing files with other users on the network. I found the program opaque, though, and redundant, since it was easy enough to share files with others through my public folder. The Folder View application isn't really an application.

Backing It Up At Home: The Seagate GoFlex Home Network Storage System

Digital Home Thoughts
1 September 2010
  • Summary: Seagate's GoFlex Home Provides a bare-bones Network Attached Storage (NAS) System for a reasonable price. It's set-and-forget configuration lets you rest easy knowing your backups are done automatically in the background while you work or sleep. But does it do enough for hardcore users? And will it keep normal users safe?
  • Pros: Small & Self Contained;, Basic Backup Software Included;, USB Port.
  • Cons: Administrative Interface Is Not User Friendly;, Flaky Time Machine Backups;, Lack of SSH Access.

Review of Seagate GoFlex Home Network Storage System

Testfreaks blog
26 August 2010
  • Conclusion: In the past I found network attached storage devices from the big name hard drive makers to be underwhelming either in function or software implementation. Seagate has changed this preconception, as the GoFlex Home system is robust and well designed. There numerous ways of accessing and transferring your data onto the device including FTP, as a network drive or via the web-based Seagate share application.
  • Pros: Quick setup, Swappable storage, Sleek appearance, Web access to your files, Ability to invite people to your “Shares”, Works as print server
  • Cons: Additional features sold as a “Pro” upgrade, Runs slower on the Mac side

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Home

CNET
31 December 2010
  • Summary: As a base NAS offering the GoFlex Home is functional but lacks a real killer feature to make it stand out from the NAS pack, and the fact that certain features are in effect hidden behind a paywall detracts from its overall value significantly.
  • Pros: Simple setup, USB port for printer sharing, Media file sharing
  • Cons: User creation limited unless you pay for pro features, Backup software is a trial version, Lacks RAID, Some pro features should be standard, not paid extras
