Summary: After researching many backup hard-drives for my iMac G5, I decided that this Seagate unit was very well priced for what it provided. Unfortunately though, when I first hooked it up and tried to download the entire contents of my hard-drive, nothing would work. There were virtually no helpful directions and no manual came with the unit. When I tried to talk to Seagate's technical support, they were of no use whatsoever.
Summary: This is a top performing drive no question about it. The 5 year warranty alone should separate it from the pack and be a top selling point considering most hard drive manufacturers offer 2/3 years. Seagate has also lowered their warranty on their newer products to 3 years, so take advantage of their older items. I know some people are interested in knowing what separates the standard version with the mac one.
Summary: I've only had this disk for a month, but so far it's been great! I reformatted it to FAT32 so that I can move files between my MAC and PC. The only problem I had was that I was not able to mount the disk on an older Windows XP machine. Not sure if it was an incompatibility with the older OS or just my dying computer. It's worked with everything else.
Summary: I'm quoting directly from this page: "What's in the Box: FreeAgent Go portable hard drive, Desktop docking station, Travel case, FireWire 800 cable, FireWire 800 to 400 cable, USB cable, and Quickstart guide." I only received the hard drive with no docking station, travel case, etc. I communicated with the third party and they said there is an error on the Amazon website but they were nice enough to give me a credit.
Summary: Seems to work quite well. I've had it for about a month now traveling with it and downloading video, etc. It warms up considerably with continued use. It has no fan, so it is silent. Guess you couldn't have cool and silent together with moving parts. Since I'm traveling I'm just using the short firewire 800 cord. It looks nice, and the light inside the grill tells you when it is on.
