Seems flaky, may have blown out Thunderbolt port, doesn't work smoothly with my system
3 weeks ago
Summary: Bought this for a MBP but it wouldn't mount when I plugged it in. Turned out the Thunderbolt port was bad, but I had never used the port before so I'm not sure if it was working prior to plugging in the drive. I took the laptop in to get the port repaired, but the drive still didn't mount when I plugged it in the second time. I took the laptop in again and the port was again bad, but it wasn't clear if the drive had blown it out or it was just a bad replacement part.
Summary: I really want to give this product more stars, because when it worked, it worked great... After about a year of use, the connection is constantly lost. I always properly eject the drive and it's always been stored safely in my bag with the cord removed and neatly wound, but regardless of my attempt at good care, it can't maintain a connection with my comp.
Summary: It doesn't back up the hard drive on my apple desk top (2005). My son did more research and realized this is a common problem with this particular computer/backup interface. It WILL back up my husband's newer apple lap top, so no need to send it back, since we will use it. MY computer problem is not solved, however.
Compatibility Cloud Issues for Mac OS 10 And Above
Quirky Girl, Amazon
15 July 2012
Summary: Thin, sleek, simple to use, portable and dependable. The USB 3.0 cable is included. The problem is there is no 'cloud storage icon' in the Seagate Dashboard software - the Mac version of Seagate Dashboard doesn't have either the Cloud or the Protect features. For Mac systems, Seagate recommends backing up your system using Apple Time Machine. This is a Windows drive with limited Mac functionality.
