Summary: I use this with Time Machine on my Mac and it works great. Haven't had any issues what so ever. Time Machine likes Firewire disk better than USB it seems, and this has worked well. Basically I've hooked it up and forgot about it. Hopefully it'll never fail.
Summary: This is a very fast backup drive. And it's quiet too. There are always so many purring electronics around these days. But this is hardly noticeable. And it has a ton of storage capabilities. I reformatted the drive (which I usually do) and didn't have any issues. Nice, compact, quiet, fast backup/storage drive.
Summary: When I bought a new iMac with thunderbolt available, I wanted to move away from Time Capsule. Time Capsule was perfect for my MacBook Pro, although a bit slow. The Thunderbolt backup is amazing, a full restore from the Time Capsule would take almost two days. The initial back-up with the seagate thunderbolt took 23 minutes. The hourly backups typically take about a minute, and since it is directly connected to my Mac, my network is not degraded.
Summary: This unit comes WITH the Thunderbolt cable and the adapter. This is light and portable-ish. It is much smaller than my WD My Book Studio II - 2 TB (2 x 1 TB) USB 2.0/FireWire 800/400/eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive and has a smaller footprint My teenager makes movies so he has tons of files that are interviews and film footage of the river area and other documentary events. Some of these films have been really spectacular.
Summary: I've only bought Seagate Hard Drives and have had no issues with them. I have a 500GB USB 2.0 hard drive from 5 years ago that still performs as if it was still fresh out of the box. These specific hard drives work well with my video production process and the fact that it is modular makes me excited that when thunderbolt ports become widely accessible, I will be able to utilize that speed without buying a new hard drive. I would buy 2 more when I get the chance.
