Great back-up control
Summary: The Dashboard control panel is very easy to use and allows either continuous or periodic back up. Just started using and looks really nice. If performance crashes I'll give a follow up review. The Dashboard control panel allows automatic back ups of social media but this feature can be disabled if not desired.
Summary: These Seagate external HDs are incredible; with 4TB of space, they provide enough room for a large, full-length, HD quality, digital video project with room to spare. And the fact that Seagate made them compatible with all of their drive adapters, they can easily be swapped between the USB 2.0, SS USB 3.0, eSATA, or even the blazing fast Seagate thunderbolt drive adapter depending on what your computer's top speed connectivity is.
Pros: Kenneth noticed that the overwhelming majority of the negative posts are for the 4tb and 3tb drives, not the 2tb. drive on this page. He's correct that Newegg should do a better job with categorizing their reviews.
Cons: Newegg, you almost cost yourself a sale----and would have if I hadn't read Kenneth P.'s new review today.
Finally a Seagate Drive that properly works with M
6 February 2014
Summary: I don't know your experience with Seagate products and Macs, but unfortunately I have bought several drives that always claimed to work and they wouldn't. (And it was not because of the NTFS formatting system... all my external drives are formatted the same and other brands work fine) This external hard disk has new drivers installed directly in the drive so it works like a charm, like advertised, like Seagate disks should always have worked.
Summary: I couldn't believe I had almost filled a 2TB drive, so I decided to upgrade my external drive to 4TB. This Seagate drive is just what the doctor ordered! EASY set-up right out of the box, silent operation, small footprint - everything I wanted/needed. With USB3 as the "slowest" connection - this drive is a great external backup ... and 4TB should last quite a while! I am very happy to recommend this drive.
Summary: I am surprised at how well this drive performs for a one that is not a 7200rpm drive. The drive inside is reported to be a 5900rpm hard drive and with the USB3.0 it is an excellent drive to quickly backup and transfer large files. I had initially considered the faster Seagate Expansion 4TB but after reading reviews about a significantly higher failure rate with those drives than the Backup Plus, I opted for the slightly slower drive.
