Seagate 3TB drives have a high failure rate

Summary: I bought 2 of these drives. Both lasted over a year but then slowly began to get more and more unreliable. If you do a google search for Seagate 3TB drives you'll see that studies have come out saying they have the highest failure rate.
Ok while it lasted, but it croaked with zero warning.

Summary: How long are these supposed to last, anyway? I bought mine in late 2012, and subjected it to what I would consider average use. I used it to store movies, videos, and photos. Three days ago (it is now Feb 2015), it started making a weird noise, then stopped working completely.
Excerpt: Not as advertised, will be taking it back for a refund when I get a day off. Drive is 5900rpm not 7200rpm as described. Not a huge difference for everyday use but I bought the drive for a specific purpose and a slower seek time of the 5900rpm drive isn't fit for purpose.

Summary: It does not perform anywhere near to expectations. When backing-up its speed is hardly any faster than my previous usb2 version and yes I am using a new USB3 slot with the usb cable supplied by Seagate.
