Summary: After having great success with the portable 2.5" drive version, the Seagate Desktop Thunderbolt Dock was something I was very excited to try. And when I replaced my Late-2012 iMac's 3TB 3.5" hard drive with an SSD, I finally had an excuse to get one of these.
Thunderbolt drive will not function as Mac bootable volume.

Summary: I am using a Seagate 4TB Backup Plus drive with this Thunderbolt Adapter. The drive works well for blazing-fast file transfers, but it simply can't be used as a startup volume with my MacBook Pro (10.8.2), which is very disappointing. Seagate tech support has been absolutely useless.
Summary: I attached the STAE129 with Seagate Backup Plus Desktop 4TB disk (STCA4000300) which surprisingly didn't work as a thunderbolt bootable disk unit. Summary: The product was supposed to come with a cloud back up subscription which never allowed me to log on or use it. I did not find the software bundled with it easy to use and would have preferred a manual back up procedure. When required to restore the backups the product failed.
Summary: When I connected it up to my new HP PC it resulted in me not being able to boot the machine into Windows. Plus after several attempts to identify the problem I had to recover Windows because I could not even boot the machine once this unit was disconnected.
Summary: This drive worked perfectly well for exactly three weeks. Then I made the mistake of updating the Seagate Dashboard software, following a notification from Seagate. All hell broke out on my PC - I wasted a day getting it to the point of being usable.
