    Since the FreeAgent isn't an NAS device, it doesn't offer direct remote access, but for the times you want to fetch files from a distance, you can upload them to an online, password-protected Seagate Internet Disk storage account (also run by Memeo) provided with the drive. The Internet Disk site offers an easy-to-use, drag-and-drop interface, but it only works with Internet Explorer, not with Firefox. Read more

    I purchased two of these units on 5/20/2009 from Staples to use as alternatiing backups for my desktop computer. Staples had a flyer out with a really good price ($89.90 EA + Tax). Both units had a 5 year limited warranty, which was an important selling feature to me. I kept one unit plugged into the computer and the other one I would plug in only when I wanted to run backup to it. They both worked fine until about 4 days ago. Read more

    Bought this item b'cause I needed an external hard drive compatible with my new (USB 2.0) computer and also my older (USB 1.1) computer, the one that, instead of USB as power source, used AC wall outlet for power supply. Computer techs said to me that USB powered hard drives put stress on computer and drain on computer battery. I'm to use it around-the-house and can afford to sacrifice compactness and true portability. Read more
