Quiet data corruption. Seagate failed me twice.

Summary: My unit started to die before warranty ended. SMART test failed. Seagate sent me the replacement (a newer model btw, not this one). The replacement drive worked for half-year then started to die too. The data became corrupted. When I was copying the data, it did not give an error. It even allowed me to read the data back without errors. But now the data is bad. E.g a picture becomes unreadable, the file differs from the one I put.
Summary: I can't even get the stupid thing to show on my desktop or in my computer anywhere! Any online tech support I can find to read has instructions that prompt me from when I find the item in my control panel--ummm it doesn't show up. When I went to download some software to help with this Seagate Dashboard loaded and not FreeAgent GoFlex-not any of the times I uninstalled and reinstalled.
Summary: Just bought this thing - plugged it in, installed the software for mac, rebooted my computer and it acts as if nothing was done. I suggest save yourself the sometime and get something else. Will be returning this expensive brick tomorrow.
Summary: I have had this drive for somewhere between a year or two. This drive never gave any trouble and worked properly the whole time. One day I went to plug it into my computer and it refuses to be recognized. It will no longer turn on. I plug it in, light comes on, the insides spin for a couple seconds and then the light goes off and nothing happens.
Summary: We bought 2 of these drives. My wife`s drive still works. We had put the drives into a hard case to be safe. We use it about 4 times to back up our computer.I just think it should last longer than a year.
