I owe 1.5GB version of this drive _ unreliable.....

Summary: I am not sure if Samsung warranty TTS company guys check the HDD before they ship but this one I received is DOA - doesn't power up. I did check and Power Supply does output voltage. I am getting really disappointed First HDD got replaced 1 year after purchase with defective HDD. second I received from warranty was working 2 months and just stopped to power up.
Summary: After two months of light use, one day it just failed to power up. I experimented with all the usual-- checked the power cord, usb cable etc.. and even shook it lightly but to no avail. It was completely dead. A few days later I tried again. Turned the drive upside down with the power cable plugged in and the power switch on. This time however I smelled something burning and the moment I saw smoke coming out of the bottom vent, turned power off immediately!
Summary: I've bought 6 Samsung Story Station hard drives: 3 1TB, 2 1.5 TB, AND 1 2TB. 3 of the 6 have died. This drive worked flawlessly for about 6 months with very light use. Then, it just wouldn't turn on again. It wasn't the power adapter. I contacted Samsung and they said they couldn't save my data from the drive if I returned it to them. So, I looked around and finally found a guy on ebay who recovered my data to another hard drive for $14.95 .

I will not buy another Story Station.
Bought 3 of these and 2 failed in the first 10 months of use.

Summary: I am a photographer & we also do graphic design, and use external drives to back up our files. Thankfully, I had a second backup drive where all of my info was stored, but I had two of these exact units fail within a month of eachother. I have replaced them both with a different brand. This is a REALLY BAD PURCHASE. These are NOT reliable. Samsung was not great with the customer service, either, so we just decided to use another brand from now on.
Summary: It is true that Samsung makes many attractive, innovative and high quality products. Sadly this is not one of them: The product stopped working after only 4 months. A quick search on the internet shows that this was not an isolated case - many people seem to have this problem, suggesting poor quality and/or design. In short, save yourself the potential loss of data, wasted money and hassle of an exchange (if you can exchange) - buy another product. This one is a dog.
Summary: Reviewed the other comments on here and it looked a good purchase. Had the unit 15days and at first it seemed very quiet, and fast, but little did I know that it would fail without any warning. The unit failed to power on and after a little investigation the drive is completely dead. No warning given nothing....had around 200GB of data on the unit. The unit failed before I managed to put a backup solution in place.
Summary: If you're planning on putting anything of value on this product, DO NOT buy it. Mine just failed to power up one morning having just transferred many years worth of personal information. The plan was to get a second drive to back this one up but I hadn't got that far. The next task is how/if the data on it is recoverable. If it's not I will be absolutely devastated.
Summary: My Story Station died after a couple of year's use. I have disassembled and found the DESIGN FLAW that causes these to fail. The good news is that your data MAY be okay (I would say 99% chance that >95% data is recoverable). If anyone is interested in a no fix no fee service, let me know.
