Summary: This unit has a basic problem. It can lose drive letter identification. Which means no access to data. The one I got would not get a drive lerrer Identification. Even though the device manager recognized it and said all is well. Therefore it was useless. Therefore I would say "Stay away from it.
Summary: I did not use this drive for any heavy back work at all. The last time I had it out it was making a clicking noise.I should have done a full backup at that point. Today I turned it on and you could feel the disc platters screeching to a halt. Dead.
Summary: I am in the process of trying to access the data on this drive without success. I have been working on it all day as I really need to recover some important files. If you google the drive you will discover that Maxtor is now owned by Seagate and although Windows 7 says this drive is compatible...
Summary: This drive was full of data, when I called the person that apparently owned it, they were shocked. His wife sold it at a yard sale. I erased it for him, and he was grateful. I don;t know how this drive ended up being sold in the first place, but it was a rip off, and died after the first bunch of...
Summary: Due to the incredibly poor construction quality, it is not only possible, it is easy, to insert the fire-wire cable in upside down. Properly constructed devices that conform to standards do not present this risk. This device can destroy other computer equipment.
Summary: What a fiasco. I bought two and have put both in the trash. I'll think more than twice before buying again from anything to do with Maxtor or Seagate. I bought them originally because of the Firewire connectors and the prospect of daisy chaining them.
Summary: I bought this from Office Depot on sale, and by the time it stop responding (about 2 months later), it was past their return period. I hooked it up to an older machine running Windows XP, a few weeks after I bought it. It was clumsy, with two USB plugs. The software was awful, and non-sensical.
Summary: Don't waste your money on this... I've had one a little over a year... or should I say 2 of them. Had to take the first one back to the store, it malfunctioned right after I bought it. Now it's totally shot! I use it strictly for backing up files for finances and photo's...
