Summary: I bought this from Office Depot on sale, and by the time it stop responding (about 2 months later), it was past their return period. I hooked it up to an older machine running Windows XP, a few weeks after I bought it. It was clumsy, with two USB plugs. The software was awful, and non-sensical. It didn't respond to much of anything. I know this is to be expected from most hard drives software though. I tried to manually upload everything I wanted.
Summary: Don't waste your money on this... I've had one a little over a year... or should I say 2 of them. Had to take the first one back to the store, it malfunctioned right after I bought it. Now it's totally shot! I use it strictly for backing up files for finances and photo's... My computer guy said it's no good! I haven't had it 18 months... now I have to go spend more money on a new one.
Summary: I am in tears right now because I lost all of my daughters pictures and videos due to this piece of crap. I am beyond words with grief and can only warn you to STAY AWAY - it should be a crime to manufacture something that is so emotionally destructive. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Oh My Gosh.
Summary: This was my second Maxtor One-Touch. The other is a One-Touch 3 and luckily it is still working. The One-Touch 4, 750GB drive failed without warning. As I was only using it as a secondary backup to the One-Touch 3, I haven't lost any data. It is still under warranty, so I'm having Maxtor replace it. Of course I will never trust the replacement and will need to purchase another (certainly non-Maxtor) drive to use as tertiary backup.
Summary: We are joining the crowd of problem-experiencing users. It worked for six month. Now it will not talk to the computer and comp. does not read it even though it sees it in some places like Device manager.
Summary: I wish I had filmed what I have to say here. After months of dealing with maxtor/Seagate (they told me to buy disk repair software) and then trying to get the damn thing working again after I lost about 135 GB of iTunes, documents, and photos, I took the 750 GB version of this product out to the garage and used a sledgehammer on it. Very satisfying results.
Summary: I bought this to transfer pictures and movies from one pc to a HTPC. This unit would crash windows explorer almost every time I hooked it up! Then the usb socket broke off of the internal circuit board. I was so mad I threw the whole thing in the trash. Then I remembered that you can buy cases for the hard drives, so I ordered one on Ebay for $[...].
Summary: I purchased this drive to backup the OS and data on my computer when I started having HD problems. The drive said it backed up the data but after replacing the old drive the maxtor data could not be retrieved. I contacted their "Customer Service" and was told it would not work. their comment " it kinda says so on the box" I checked the box and no mention of not working was there, also it is hard to read the box when buying from Amazon.
Summary: My first drive lasted about 4 months. all data on the drive was lost. Maxtor sent a replacement(repaired) unit in about a week. That unit also only last about four months. Again the data was lost.
Summary: Maxtor One Touch 4 plus. ** CAN NOT RECOMMEND ** This problem is happening with many consumers. From one day to the next you turn on your computer and you can't access the drive?!?!? I have jumped through All the hoops Tech Support wanted and my computer still won't access the drive. I can't see it. I have EVEN disassembled at Tech Supports request, purchased an new external case to put the drive in and it STILL won't work.
