"Prone to failures, customer support is terrible."
26 September 2009
Pros: This drive was fantastic while it lasted. For A USB drive transfers felt pretty fast, it seemed safe, and the drive interfaced well with XP
Cons: The drive has minimal 64 bit support, and I have had 2 hardware failures. The first time the drive would not format and I had to RMA it. The second time it was plagued with power failures and seagate stopped responding.
Summary: If one drive fails it is just chance, if 2 drives fail, JUNK! I own 2 Maxtor 1 TB drives (what a mistake!). The first drive Stopped operating after only 8 months of use on my macbook pro. It is in for a $1,600.00 data recovery job to try and save the 15% of photos on the drive I did not have backed up. My second identical drive was unresponsive after only 3 months of use. It became unrecognizable to my mac after I attempted to backup 400 GB of photos to it.
Pros: CHEAP MONEY IS ALL I CAN SAY GOOD,- DON'T FALL FOR THIS LIKE I DID
Cons: PURCHASED 6/13/08 AT WALLY WORLD FOR $117.47. I AM A DJ AND SPENT SPENT COUNTLESS HOURS PUTTING OVER 15,000 SONGS ON THIS. IT WORKED FINE FOR 3 MONTHS THEN I MADE THE FATAL ERROR TO UNPLUG THE POWER TO BRING TO A GIG AND IT HUMMED AND BEEPED. NG
Cons: Fails backup. Seagate online FAQs, Troubleshooting, drive tests, Knowledge Base & community forum are useless. Likewise Tech Support. They don't even acknowledge your contact except to give you a support ticket which they proceed to ignore.
