Summary: Windows 7 doesn't automatically detect the USB driver for this drive, so I looked up online and the driver is nowhere to be found. maxtor is bought by seagate, and most links of the driver download show 404 link error. Sorry to say, but it's not that difficult to provide such basic level of support for the products like hard drives.
Summary: I have had the hard drive for about a year now and I haven't had any real problems with it. Ya, it's big and bulky but it is also really cheap for a 500Gb hard drive. The formatting might be a little difficult for someone if it's your first time with a hard drive. Other than that there is no real reason for me to give this a bad review. It worked just fine.
Summary: I bought this from Office Depot on sale, and by the time it stop responding (about 2 months later), it was past their return period. I hooked it up to an older machine running Windows XP, a few weeks after I bought it. It was clumsy, with two USB plugs. The software was awful, and non-sensical. It didn't respond to much of anything. I know this is to be expected from most hard drives software though. I tried to manually upload everything I wanted.
Summary: Don't waste your money on this... I've had one a little over a year... or should I say 2 of them. Had to take the first one back to the store, it malfunctioned right after I bought it. Now it's totally shot! I use it strictly for backing up files for finances and photo's... My computer guy said it's no good! I haven't had it 18 months... now I have to go spend more money on a new one.
Summary: I am in tears right now because I lost all of my daughters pictures and videos due to this piece of crap. I am beyond words with grief and can only warn you to STAY AWAY - it should be a crime to manufacture something that is so emotionally destructive. I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Oh My Gosh.
Summary: This was my second Maxtor One-Touch. The other is a One-Touch 3 and luckily it is still working. The One-Touch 4, 750GB drive failed without warning. As I was only using it as a secondary backup to the One-Touch 3, I haven't lost any data. It is still under warranty, so I'm having Maxtor replace it. Of course I will never trust the replacement and will need to purchase another (certainly non-Maxtor) drive to use as tertiary backup.
