Summary: This unit has a basic problem. It can lose drive letter identification. Which means no access to data. The one I got would not get a drive lerrer Identification. Even though the device manager recognized it and said all is well. Therefore it was useless. Therefore I would say "Stay away from it.
Summary: I did not use this drive for any heavy back work at all. The last time I had it out it was making a clicking noise.I should have done a full backup at that point. Today I turned it on and you could feel the disc platters screeching to a halt. Dead.
Summary: I am in the process of trying to access the data on this drive without success. I have been working on it all day as I really need to recover some important files. If you google the drive you will discover that Maxtor is now owned by Seagate and although Windows 7 says this drive is compatible...
