FireWire 800 port failed in first 3 months

R. Fast "Buyer", Amazon
14 January 2013
  • Summary: I have owned MANY of these LaCie Rugged drives throughout the years — and unfortunately it's a little hit and miss on the quality. I've had drives fail, and this drive specifically I bought in June 2012 and in August the FireWire 800 port no longer worked.

LaCie Rugged 1TB Triple Interface: Solid drive with poor Firewire choices

T. Parker, Amazon
3 December 2011
  • Summary: I use a pair of these drives for video fieldwork, backing up DSLR cards and holding HDV archives until I'm back home. The drives are solid performers with decent transfer rates. My only disappointment is that LaCie chose to put one Firewire 800 port and one Firewire 400 port on the drive.

Runs hot

TV Shooter "TV Shooter", Amazon
4 October 2011
  • Summary: I'm a video editor and the description clearly says that it is a good drive for editing. Well, for me the drive runs hot and I've got too much on the line, a hot drive is not to reassuring!

Too Hot To Handle???

Mark, MacMall
16 June 2010
  • Conclusion: Unit works excellent however if you need it for long term use where the drive has to be accessed frequently expect lots of heat. Unit really heats up and gets hot, I don't know if this will effect the life span of the unit. If used infrequently it stays cool.

scott taniguchi "415djs", Amazon
26 January 2010
  • Summary: Was all good for about a year. Then started acting funny. Would stop spinning while still mounted. Customer service was fast and after troubleshooting wouldn't help. I was able to send it in for repair. Repair was free and took about 2 weeks.

  • Summary: I lost my faith in the LaCie brand when they stopped using IBM brand drives, and I watched two different drives fail completely. I decided to take a chance with this one, since a friend of mine has two, and he travels hardily and extensively.

great for desktop, not so much for laptop

GameMaker, Amazon
30 July 2009
  • Summary: I bought one of these drives because I am taking a class on video, so it is convenient to take the drive to class, work on it there, and take by videos home. In that capacity, it works great. I'm impressed by the simplicity, the speed, and all the different connectivity options that it offers.
