Summary: I am very disappointed about this idem. Since I got it doesn't work the way suppose to do. I had been try to contact LACIE company but it is not possible. I don't like to write but reviews. However I have to do it for this time. The problem is the fire-wire connector, never works.
Summary: I study photography at an art school and almost every student on campus owns one (if not several) of these drives. Staff and faculty suggest them because of their low fail rate and the "rugged" nature of the product (since students are often not the gentlest with their equipment).
Summary: Not as compact as many other 2.5" drives, probably because the triple interface (USB + FiWi400 + FiWi800) takes up a lot of space
Pros: Firewire is very fast, I consistently got 50MB/s with this hard drive. Compare that to the 20MB that a USB drive gets on a good day
Cons: I had the drive for about 6 months and never had any problems. One day it dropped from about 3 feet on a carpet floor. After that the drive went into a constant mount-unmount cycle and I was not able to recover any data. Are you kidding me LaCie? I had other non-"rugged" drives take a fall like t...
Summary: It seemed great at first but then it began to freeze and at times when I plugged it in to the computer,it took a while for the computer to detect it. It also takes forever to eject in windows and for Mac computers it has very little memory, I don't know if my harddrive was detective but I wasnt...
Summary: After just a month of using this drive the Firewire 800 port stopped working. I ordered it specifically for use of FW 800 and am now stuck with just another another USB/FW 400 drive. I have NOT contacted LaCie for a replacement, so I can't rate their...
Summary: I really enjoyed my first several months with my LaCie harddrive. It was great. The set up went smoothly (I use a Mac). I loved the ability to partition a few gbs off from the get go for use with a PC. It was orange.
Summary: I purchased this item from Amazon on Feb 10, 2010. It fails on Mar 2, 2010. It worked great for the first 20 odd days! I contacted Lacie on Mar 2 and got the run-around for two days. I purchased the $49.99 Premium Care for this drive to help expedite support.
Summary: As a desktop support technician I spent a good deal of time in the field going from call to call. As such, my gear gets more wear and tear than the average persons. Over the years I have tried a couple of different external drives but have been disappointed that they just don't seem to last.
Pros: Nice looking design. Multiple connection options. Worked great when it worked.
Cons: Failed after only a couple months of use. LaCie support so far has been DREADFUL. I would be happy to come back and update this judgment should they manage to actually provide some support, but I am not holding my breath.
Summary: When you first plug in the product, the Lacie Setup Assistant appears. As the documentation explains, it can only be run once. If it fails, it cannot be run again. But as LaCie's own website admits, "Some products that come with LaCie Setup Assistant have a problem when installed on Snow Leopard.
