Summary: I was hesitant about the design as I should have been. A manufacturer defect in the case deleted the partition. I opened the case to try and recover the files. I was mostly unsuccessful. However now I have voided the warranty. If you choose poorly to purchase this drive and need to open it to access the drive inside to recover files. Lie about opening it....your warranty or lack there of will be void. I've liked LaCie for the most part.
Summary: My LaCie Rikiki portable Hard Drive is not being recognized by any laptop and makes strange noises when connected. I recently contacted the LaCie online technical support. they recommend sending the unit for repair. where can i send it to this?
Summary: This Hard drive looks great... but it failed after only 3 months. It started disconnecting itself randomly after only a month. I've probably only used it a dozen and a half times before it failed. I love the lacie designs but I am not ordering from them again. Do not trust Lacie for back-ups.
Summary: I bought this, and it worked great at first, super fast. I should have paid more attention to the reviews before I bought it, though. About 6 months of light use (no traveling with it, just sitting on my couch connected to my computer for a few hours at a time), the connection stopped working. Now, in order to transfer files to it, I have to hold in the cord and push at exactly the right angle or it will disconnect, and this really hurts my hand!
Summary: I ordered two of these drives. One a couple years ago, one in the last 6 months. One of them became faulty. It would randomly disconnect. I was forced to wipe it and go without it for 2 months, sending it back to lacie at my expense. When they sent it back it still randomly disconnected. Then lacie sent me a double-usb cable to connect it. Now it works, but why did one work fine with one usb cable and the other one needs two?
Summary: the service people at lacie are nice, but that's about all the good i can say about this product. please DO NOT BUY IT!!!!!!
Pros: none. not a one.
Cons: hardware from usb device breaks very easily, then you have to send the device into lacie, and in my case get a refurbished model of the same type, and then have that model break too. , honesty, the usb 3.0 connection is extremely fragile.
Summary: Works most of the time on PCs, desktops & laptops, I still have to fidget with everytime I plug it in to stop the beeping; been a problem since I got it, but I lost my receipt and couldn't return it. Works on Mac desktop, not on laptop... anymore. It use to... Formatted for Mac & PC. I want my files! Worse xhd ever!!!
Summary: In my opinion these drives are a P.O.S. They have remarkably poor file structure stability. After just one simple reformat into FAT 32 format the drive soon crashed and took all my data with it, never to be seen or heard from again. This very same thing happened to a friend of mine in college with his Lacie drive so beware about reformatting them. The USB housing was also poorly built which resulted in the drive dropping in and out due to a hot joint connection.
