Summary: My computer stopped recognizing this drive within months of purchase. I should have known better than to take another chance with a LaCie product after using many of LaCie's rugged portable drives for work and watching them slowly become recognizable by the machines I connected them to.
Summary: I was hesitant about the design as I should have been. A manufacturer defect in the case deleted the partition. I opened the case to try and recover the files. I was mostly unsuccessful. However now I have voided the warranty. If you choose poorly to purchase this drive and need to open it to access the drive inside to recover files. Lie about opening it....your warranty or lack there of will be void. I've liked LaCie for the most part.
Summary: My LaCie Rikiki portable Hard Drive is not being recognized by any laptop and makes strange noises when connected. I recently contacted the LaCie online technical support. they recommend sending the unit for repair. where can i send it to this?
Summary: This Hard drive looks great... but it failed after only 3 months. It started disconnecting itself randomly after only a month. I've probably only used it a dozen and a half times before it failed. I love the lacie designs but I am not ordering from them again. Do not trust Lacie for back-ups.
Summary: Thankfully I didn't have any original files on here, and the only thing lost was the time to return it twice. Complete garbage, and I'll never get sucked in to the LaCie style over function again.
Pros: Box design is gorgeous. Sleek, and very cool aesthetic.
Cons: The way the cord connects to the drive is awkward, and the insides are, well... garbage. Total failure twice.
Summary: Internal disk is Seagate, ST1000LM024. It's AF, so you need to make sure if you re-partition it, you properly account for the 4K sectors to align the partitions properly. Drive is made in China!
Pros: Simple, sleek looking case, USB 3.0 support, Doesn't need power.
Cons: I never understand why my client buy LaCie drives, other than that they *look* good from the outside. But on the inside, it's a different story. The real problem lies with their controllers. They tend to fail before the drive does. However, in this model, the controller prevents you from properly formatting the drive the way YOU want. Forget about this drive if you plan to connect it to a NAS device or any device running a U*ix-flavored operating system. The drive com...
Summary: I think this is the one I got... black, 2.0 USB, 500 gigs Yesterday it just stopped working; my computer said it had to reformat it in order to read it; I read on the internet that reformatting would wipe out everything. I tried to salvage something by going to Properties-tools, but it refused to access; and even when I tried reformatting it, it wouldn't... computer kept saying it didn't have access to it. Took it to a computer guy who said, 'sorry.
Summary: I bought this, and it worked great at first, super fast. I should have paid more attention to the reviews before I bought it, though. About 6 months of light use (no traveling with it, just sitting on my couch connected to my computer for a few hours at a time), the connection stopped working. Now, in order to transfer files to it, I have to hold in the cord and push at exactly the right angle or it will disconnect, and this really hurts my hand!
