Summary: I have a western digital external hard drive that works great. I decided to try out the Lacie, connected my Lacie hard drive, the set up was not working. The Lacie website suggested a possible solution was to partition the hard drive. After partitioning the hard drive, it worked for a few days. The transfer rate was fast but then it started to give a clicking noise. After that it was totally inaccessible. I should have just bought another Western digital.
Summary: Sorry to say that this fine device broke down within 2 months; am in touch with LaCie about replacement (which will cost extra 20 euros, I believe). Disappointing. But as previous LaCie (smaller) worked well am continuing with a replacement.
Summary: I've just spent 2 hours at the Apple Genuis bar who, in the process of copying my iTunes library to Lacie, have found the drive to be corrupts (probably because the cable was faulty, as with another reviewer). I now have 3 years worth of work lost, and am about to fork out £600 for a data recovery service....!
Summary: The aluminium casing looks great in photographs but in the flesh it is just a sleeve covering 4 sides of the drive. The other 2 sides leave the cheap plastic drive it (nearly) hides exposed. The corners are very sharp, so it's not very pocket or bag friendly for portability. The female USB connector is really shallow so the cable never really locates properly and connection is regularly lost.
Summary: I have an older version of one of these drives which I used as an Apple time capsule back-up. It's just failed - so don't expect a Lacie drive to last. Especially if you are using it for back-up, from experience choose another brand if long-life is important.
Summary: Ordered this on 26th Sept, advised it was dispatched the same day but gave a delivery "window" of between 1st & 21st Oct! How in this day & age can it possibly take 3 weeks to arrive. E-mailed the seller "Pro-Access" on 10th Oct & not even had a reply! Even if this does eventually arrive, it will be going back, as I've had to buy an alternative products, as couldn't wait any longer. What a bunch of cowboys!
