Summary: I have never had any problems with LaCie drives before but this drive routinely fails. When using firewire the non-ventilated plastic case overheats. The internal USB cable is flimsy and usually requires the use of another USB cable to power the drive. When transferring large files it tends to crash. If you are looking for a drive that needs to take heavy use, look elsewhere.
Summary: Initialized easily for a Mac. Used software to make a backup disk. Disk very light and fast when using Firewire. The end cap makes this drive great for travel. The reliability of LaCie makes this a perfect backup drive.
Summary: This LaCie hard drive is easy to setup, stylish, and can fit just about anywhere. I haven't had any connectivity problems, nor have I used the softward bundled on the drive--but I have connected the hard drive to Macs and PCs and it works perfectly.
Summary: Just purchased this yesterday, so I cannot comment on reliability yet. I do have some thoughts on the design: - The glossy black finish looks great next to the latest generation MacBook and MacBook Pro (the ones with the aluminum unibody). However, it is a fingerprint magnet, so I consider it a poor choice of material for something that is intended to be handled frequently. - The built-in, retractable USB cord is a great idea, but it is super short.
Summary: I love this drive. It spins up much faster than my wall-powered WD external, is VERY light-weight, and the ports are great. It is brilliant to have the USB cable built into the drive. VERY convenient, as I don't have to carry that around too. On that note, the thing powers fine from my macbook with just the retractable USB cable, so no power issues there. Obviously does fine with Firewire too.
Summary: Seeing as how all the reviews prior to mine are 4 and 5 stars, I must have had bad luck with the particular Little Disk that I bought less than a week ago. I was very excited because of how small and beautiful it is. Everything transferred from my other external hard drive with no problem, the FireWire made it super fast, so far so good.
Summary: After doing a little research, I settled on the Lacie Little Disk because I wanted a drive with Firewire for my MacBook. I also own a LaCie 80GB mobile external hard drive designed by FA Porsche which has given me years of trouble free use but the capacity is on the low side by today's standards.
Summary: As I got more and more sweaty-palmed as my laptop drive filled up, I looked for a fast, compact external drive which would travel well. The Little Disk 250GB is a classy little unit with a pull-out USB connector (but I tend to use the Firewire connection more frequently.) A beautifully designed drive, it more than doubles my laptop's capacity.
