Summary: I've owned the 250GB model for 2 years without any problems. I used to use purely for the occasional backup for my laptop. I now use it with a Mac mini to store video content. I've had the 320GB model for 2 months and I've been using it every day in similar fashion. The drive is relatively quiet, especially when it isn't reading/writing data. It doesn't get very hot while running either and the enclosure is perfect for stacking (see photo).
Pros: Easy To Setup, Easy to use, Portable, Reliable
Excerpt: "I am a VERY clumsy person and this thing has inevitably been dropped, thrown, kicked, trodden on and sat on. It still works. recently it's started making quite a loud noise but that was after being thrown off a bed while being read from so I think thats my fault, not the product. it looks neat and is really compact. because it's flat you can have it whichever way up you want and you can put stuff on top of it which is always a plus. on/off switch ...
Pros: looks nice, works fine and i havent broken it yet !
Cons: on/off button a little fiddly, short usb cable (can be extended)
Excerpt: "An average external hard drive that just does its job, that it is a little smaller than some others is not so important for me. A big drawback is that it does not switch on and off with the computer and the manual switch is fiddly and mounted at the opposite end to the indicator light. I find it invariably gets left on for days at a time. The supplied USB cable is very short and as mine is plugged into the front of my computer I do not see the light. ...
Excerpt: "This is a great product – I have two of them and a use them to back up and transfer all my files. This is a great way to move files between different desktops or laptops as you have much greater capacity than with a usb stick. It device plugs in with a standard mini usb cable and I’ve never has any problems with the device not being detected by the computer. The removable hard drive comes with a carry pouch – which is a black velvet pouch. I’ve not ...
Pros: reliable and fast
Cons: 40 gb capacity my be too small if you have lots of phots etc .
Excerpt: "To start this drive looks good and feels heavy which gives an immediate impression of sound quality. There is an instruction manual on provided disc. Its 190 x 110 x 35 mm in size, so small enough to tuck away out of sight, although it's best to give adequate ventilation whilst running as it's passively cooled (no fan - near silent). If using as a backup device you will need to install Silverlining 98 from the mentioned disc, or use your own software. ...
Pros: Size, ease of use
Cons: could be faster on new models if had e - SATA
Excerpt: "We bought our Porsche-designed LaCie external hard drive around two months ago, essentially to use as a back-up storage device - my other half and I run a graphic design studio so have lots of big files that need to be kept somewhere that's easy access. Although it's kind of important to us to have something that's good to look at, the most important thing really was price per GB of available back-up space - and this little beauty didn't disappoint! ...
Pros: It works fine, looks great and is a good price .
Excerpt: "...plug it in. There is Lacie "1 click backup" software supplied if needed and all required cables and power supply. The USB cable is however probably about half a meter long which is ridiculous so you may need to consider purchasing a longer cable or USB extension. One further downside: slightly loud and has a humming noise but nothing severe. Would get a 5 star rating from me, excellent product and amazing value for money. Highly recommended 2 ...
Pros: Compact, easy to set up, and nice design
Cons: Slightly loud and supplied with pathetically short USB cable
Excerpt: "...version. The fact that i like lacie is that the company has a background apple is using the same HDD for running their machines (i was told about it) So i went and bought it. The size is compact does not make any excess noise it requires an external a power supply whitch is quite small. After formating it it showed 480Gb total disk space. I made a single partition and moved all my movies and music to it. It copied all really fast. Generally ...
Pros: Excelent Quality, a secure buy
Cons: does not close automaticaly whey you switch off the PC
Excerpt: "...them up on to the Lacie and then flick the switch and volia!!! no viruses can ge to it and destroy my data. a perfect backup solution. All in all I think that this is a winner and well worth buying. just make sure you hunt around for a good price as I know some places charge more than double their competitors. use ciao for a great deal!! ...
Excerpt: "Well, whilst the 250GB version of the same has been slaughtered by critics for its unreliability. I see none of the same traits in this one. Currently, its main purpose for me is to store all of my itunes music as there is too much for my computer harddrive. This uses up about 40GB, and i still have tonnes of space left for films, games etc. Whilst this isn't the portable version (ie. it requires an AC power supply), it is small and light enough ...
Pros: Fast connection speed . Small and relatively lightweight . stylish .
Cons: too many cables and short connection cable .
