Summary: I own 3 LaCie Neil Poulton drives. Shame on me. They look great. They are reasonably quiet. They come with a two year warranty. Plan on replacing them every two years to be safe. LaCie will do nothing for you if the drive is out of warranty. They will not sell you a replacement board to keep the the drive and housing going if you have shown that the drive is fine, but their SATA interface has failed.
Required erroneous configuring and would not hold data when transferred and stored onto it.

Summary: I was required to configure the LeCie when all you should have to do is plug it in and store to it. The configuration reassigned itself several times. The data transferred to it did not get stored to it and was lost in the transfer. Some data which did get stored on it later was not available for access. This is the first time these situations have happened to me.
Summary: I bought 4 LaCie Drives (2 Poulton's, 2 Porsche's at 2 different times), specifically as backup units for internal drives. Thus, they are typically on for an hour four times a month, and 12 hours once a month. And though they seem to be fairly reliable (if not running hot on two of the units), their power supplies are definitely not!!! I have lost two power supplies already, which don't fail like normal.
Wanted to Love It....But got Drive Failure Instead
12 April 2011
Summary: I really wanted to love this drive, it's firewire 800 and runs silent but after the third day it started to make a beeping noise and a modem-like static noise on spin-up and spin-down indicating possible soon-to-be failure. Nope, not for me. The transfer speed wasn't all that fast either even though it's firewire 800. The actual speed was similar to USB 2.0. By looking at Lacie's other drive reviews it seems I'm not the only one to have a brand new drive failure.
My product rating is NEGATIVE stars to LaCie Hard Disk Quadra 2 TB unit.

Summary: My product rating is NEGATIVE stars to LaCie Hard Disk Quadra 2 TB unit. I have ordered from Amazon LaCie Hard Disk Quadra 2 TB once on January, 19, 2011. I followed up the manufacturer's instruction to format the disk. I was able to use the disk ones, and then messages like <"you need to format the disk in drive E: before you can use it", "location is not available = E:\is not accessible", and "The volume does not contain a recognized file system.
Summary: The Software from the hard drive tried to format it. I had an error "softare.exe missing" even if it was launched on a mac. So I turn it back on and try to use disk utilities. There was also a error during the formatting. I ejected it, turn it on, but it never mount again. Tried the firewire cable, the eSata cable, the usb, another computer, still no life sign. I asked to exchange it, will tell you how will be the next one.
Summary: Do Not Buy This Product! My first unit failed after only 2 months of operation backing up an iMac 27 using the Time Machine backup program. The replacement unit failed out of the box and was a refurbished unit from Le Cie. I finally received a new unit today and we will see how long this one lasts. If this unit fails in the next 12 months, I will request a full cash refund.
Summary: I bought this disk based on LaCie's excellent reputation: what a mistake! The drive never worked: it would mount, but would not stay mounted long enough to perform even the most routine tasks. LaCie "repaired" it twice, but never made it work. When I asked for a refund, they offered to "repair" it yet a third time or to give me back 75% of the purchase price, provided I sent it back to them at my expense. $25 is pretty expensive for the short-term rental of a doorstop.
Summary: Just received this from J&R Computer World. First time it did not mount on my Mac Book (OS X 10.4.11), second time it did but after install would never mount again. Tried FireWire 400 and USB both, neither worked. Tried different cables, nothing. Downloaded firmware update from LaCie, but it could not successfully install the update. Drive does not show up under Disk Utility, and shows only as Unknown Device under System Profiler.
