stopped working after 2 years
Wickstar "wick", Amazon

Summary: While this drive has not left my desk in the 2 years it's been in service, it has failed. No bumps, drops, or shaking - just gave up. I know they're going to die eventually, but 2 years seems too short.
Summary: I just switched to another established brand ext hard drive.
Pros: Looks Good. Quiet. Once it mounts and is recognized it works fine.
Cons: To get this drive to mount and be read do the opposite of what the manual says. Plug in the USB port first THEN turn it on. It seems that the motor spins once it is turned on and then stops after a few seconds preventing the thing from mounting. Turn on AFTER plugging in the USB keeps it spinning...
Summary: HDD failed quick and hard, lost 800 gb of data. Was waiting for another HDD to be delivered as this one was filled with data from several old drives, all part of a consolidation effort, failed before my other drive arrived so that i could make a full copy and lost it all.
Pros: Nice design and pretty
Cons: Led light came loose and was moving around inside the HDD enclosure and a fan in the enclosure would be nice too.
Summary: So I get my drive on Wednesday and all is well. Nice look, easy to set up and partition on my Mac. Once set up, I transferred ~200 gigs to it- no noise at all. Very quiet. Woke up the next morning and click, click, click. Opened a ticket with Lacie for a replacement. Waiting to hear back from them.
Cons: won't mount on mac anymore. google lacie power supply or lacie won't mount and you'll fine many posts asking for help with these problems. 3 hours of trying to fix it and now i'm getting a new power supply.
Pros: It has a slick look and very quiet. Newegg was very helpful with the replacement process. Quick and easy.
Cons: I received a faulty drive. The drive tried to spin but immediately stopped and my XP laptop did not recognize it. I returned it for a replacement the same day of receipt. Not new eggs issue, but manufacturers.
Summary: Acoustic management is available for the specific drive from Samsung, but requires a dos boot floppy or CD. Not sure if it does anything. Too bad La Cie does not sell just the enclosure by itself - it is sharp.
Pros: Love the industrial design of the unit. It has a very small footprint and looks sharp. Blue light is cool.
Cons: The hard drive is noticeably loud during idle. The drive is much louder than competing units and much louder than advertised (that's why I returned it). Not sure why a Samsung hard drive is being used, when there are much quieter 1TB 7200rpm hard drives available. Blue light is not able to be tur...
Summary: This product arrived with two pin shaver style plug. It took two weeks to obtain a three pin UK compatible adapter from the supplier. Microsoft's Windows 7 hardware compatibilty website says that it is compatible. The manufacturer does not make any such claim.
Summary: First, the drive looks great. Like a small screaming black obelisk; very stylish. I wish I could turn the cool blue glow down or off though, but that's pretty minor. Although it's shiny, it hasn't picked up any fingerprints from my normally sweaty fingertips yet.
