Summary: Do not waste your time. Seriously. I purchased this unit for a PC, and a d2 Quadra at the same time for a MacBook Pro. The LaCie Hard Disk plugged in nicely, then downloaded older software from the disk. When prompted to download an upgrade, I was hit with repeated error boxes.
Summary: I've used my LaCie hard disk for 2 years (+3 weeks) now. All was fine and dandy until just a few days ago when it went out in a puff of smoke (figurative, not literal). When I went to check my warranty I found that it is only covered for up to 2 years. Not cool.
Summary: This hard drive would not stay mounted. It kept turning itself off. I wound up returning it and purchasing a different model from another vendor. I have had good results with other purchases from Amazon and with several LaCie drives that I own, but this one was a lemon.
Cons: Ordered 2 of these on 10/30/2010. The one used as our primary external daily backup became corrupt on 1/28/2011. It spins and lights up, but cannot read, write, or reformat. The other one we have on the DVR (which we rarely use) is still working fine.
Summary: Try calling tech support before you buy LaCie drives. As about a simple problem. It will prove to you that these are horrible units and there will be no help when the unit fails. Essentially the warranty is worthless.
Pros: looks like it would be a good drive
Cons: It is hot, noisy, and failed. I bought a couple of these drives and I have had problems with all of them. They are just poorly made units. I called customer support and they were horrible. They kept reading the same words from a script. If you do have a problem they just try to get you to buy ano...
Cons: 1. Tech support knows nothing. When I contacted about "Reallocated sector warning", I had to explain them about it but they still cannot know what it is. (Or pretend not to?)
