Mostly Good Drives

B. Karl, Amazon
26 August 2014
  • Summary: Fine drive and aesthetically interesting, but I tend to run into power-supply issues on these. That said, LaCie has always honored their warranties (send yours in and they send you a refurbished unit).

Esata works fine on Vista... for a time

Serge, Amazon
20 July 2012
  • Summary: I was looking for an external hard drive that could be used on my standard esata port and that had the latest technology, like USB 3. The product was installed easily except that I had to use the USB 2.0 port in order to get the installation wizard running.

Interface failed after 2 years

darmok, Amazon
29 March 2011
  • Summary: I purchased this hard drive in 2008, and in late 2010, the circuit supporting the internal hard disc failed. I was able to remove the hard disc, install it in a desktop computer, and found that all the data were still intact, but the enclosure was rendered useless.

too soon to tell

Joseph Torre, MacMall
27 January 2011
  • Conclusion: This is my second Lacie hard drives, again it failed on setup to install the software that came with the drive. I needed to go into utilities and set the drive up manually. Putting that aside I am satisfied with this Drive so far.

problem with Win7

John C., Newegg
6 August 2010
  • Summary: Connected via MB SATA port to Optiplex 980 running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. Backups using Norton Ghost and Second Copy kept failing part way through because the SATA connection would get dropped. System had to be rebooted to get LaCie to reappear in device manager.
  • Pros: Appears well built
  • Cons: Higher cost that other brands and problem with Win7 write caching.

Loud.

Dave K., Newegg
10 January 2010
  • Pros: It's an okay drive for the price. The case is strong, and well built. It's relatively fast
  • Cons: It's noisy. These guys made no effort, in my opinion, to reduce noise, so even though I have a nearly silent setup, this one device stands out, not only making a constant whir, but also lots of drive clicking, clucking noises that none of my other modern drives make so loudly. It also has a very ...

Died early ....good support

onSale
31 December 2009
  • Summary: This unit failed after a year, but La Cie was very responsive and replaced it. I use it for my Time Machine, so the backup data was lost, and I felt vulnerable for the few days it took for the replacement to arrive. But, I was able to get through to ...

LaCie 1TB External Hard Disk Great device, LOUSY Customer Service.

Denise Rosney, Amazon
18 October 2008
  • Summary: Everything the manufacturer claims about this product is true. It's cool, it's quiet, easy to use, great storage device...unless it suffers some kind of impact. My dog's tail knocked it off the coffee table. It fell 14 inches onto 4 layers of carpet and padding.
