Reviews and Problems with LaCie d2 Quadra Hard Disk

Horrible junk, especially for the price
20 October 2014
Summary: Conflicts with Mac - locks up system. After three years of extremely light duty, only running for minutes at a time to backup photos - it's now grinding and groaning as if failure is imminent. Horrible junk, especially for the price.
Summary: I have bought two LaCie external drives and never again. You are paying a premium for the nicely designed case. Don't do it. It's the same hard drives other products use. And it wasn't the hard drives that failed. It was the circuit board.
Summary: One day out of the blue it would take over ten minutes to access a single folder. I was able to save many files before it became completely corrupted (loud clicking, etc), but after reformatting the drive, it became corrupt again two days later.
Pros: Many connection options to your computer. Setup right out of the box for Mac OS X users.
Cons: Became corrupt under one year of minimum use. This was a drive that only was accessed to backup files on a bi-weekly basis.
Do not buy this drive until LaCie fixes the firmware!

Summary: I can echo the comments of several other reviewers of this drive. I have been happy with LaCie for years (with the exception of a series of short-lived power supplies they shipped with a d2 model a few years back). But this new model with USB 3.0 has major issues waking from sleep.
Summary: Over the past few months my company has purchased quite a few of these. The cost for the amount of space you get is great. Don't let that fool you into buying. We have lost 4 of these drives. They couldn't even make it through 6 months of use.
Go ahead and buy at least 5 extra power supply cables...

Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS! I have replaced 2 power supply cables and need a third. This drive has been used very little mostly due to the power supply problems. Initially, I thought the drive was great and bought a LaCie Rugged HD to carry to and from the office.
