Horrible junk, especially for the price
20 October 2014
Summary: Conflicts with Mac - locks up system. After three years of extremely light duty, only running for minutes at a time to backup photos - it's now grinding and groaning as if failure is imminent. Horrible junk, especially for the price.
Summary: I should have listened to the many negative reviews regarding LaCie products. Within 6 months of buying this product, the drive failed and LaCie wants to charge me $400 to recover the data. The tech I talked to couldn't be more arrogant and unhelpful. Classic computer nerd who has no business savvy. Stay away from this company. There are many more reliable external drives out there.
Summary: I will never by an external HD from LaCie again! I bought it in august/2012. I used it once and now, january/2013, I tryed to use it again, and my PC does not recognize it. I plug the usb cable and it`s like nothing is on. I sent an e-mail to LaCie, because I have a 3 years warranty, and they didn`t even responded.Don`t make the same mistake I did. Get another brand. S., Leonardo.
Summary: After having had Lacie hard drives for many years this was the last time I will purchase their products. After 1 week of use this hard drive stopped working. There is obviously a problem with the power supply because it won't stay on, it just shuts off. However, the customer service is the real reason I won't be back at Lacie. After many emails, finally I was told to mail the product back at MY COST and that they would fix it and send it to me at their cost.
Summary: I have bought two LaCie external drives and never again. You are paying a premium for the nicely designed case. Don't do it. It's the same hard drives other products use. And it wasn't the hard drives that failed. It was the circuit board. The other LaCie I bought rattled when the disk was spinning so badly that I finally took it apart and wedged a piece of plastic in it to stop the rattling. Some superior design!!
Summary: Very fast shipping, and good packaging! Sadly, the good impression ends there. Connecting to my Windows 7 notebook is straight forward and simple. AND THAT'S IT. Autorun keeps giving me 'FATAL ERROR PLEASE USE LACIE DEVICE', I finally try to format the drive, but before I start, I checked the Property of the drive. To my suprise, it shows total capacity of 500mb. (It should be 1tb, of course.) I'm returning it tommorrow.
Summary: IN short, it does not work with all the OSs their specs claim. Read on if you want details. I have shelves of Lacie drives (40 plus) and have never had a problem. When the 3tb came out I thought it would be the next step in using larger disks. I checked the specs and it said it would be compatible with all the OSs we used. I formated the drive and copied 1.5tb of data from our server 2008 machine, verified it was good and deleted the original.
Summary: Don't buy this drive or any LaCie d2 Quadra if you need Firewire 800 connectivity. After buying it I learned that it has a known issue on Mac OS X with failing to power back up after the computer going to sleep. It is currently October and the issue has been known to LaCie since at least May with no fix in sight. Fortunately, it does work consistently on USB, though at half speed.
