Hate these drives
18 August 2011
Summary: Over the past few months my company has purchased quite a few of these. The cost for the amount of space you get is great. Don't let that fool you into buying. We have lost 4 of these drives. They couldn't even make it through 6 months of use. One problem that I have found consistent is the drive mounts and you can view your data but when it comes to transferring the data it freezes. Really stinks when you loose your media.
Summary: Beware of this product. After purchasing it in October of 2010, it now will not turn on/power up. I am in the process of contacting technical support. It looks like I either lost priceless videos of my sons first 6 months of life...or I will have to pay a small fortune to have a computer magician work some magic. I am hoping for the latter. I will never buy a La Cie product again.
Summary: I have purchased eight of these drives over the years at about six month intervals as more storage is needed. Starting with a 250gb and ending with a 1TB about four months ago. I love to multitude of connection options, the speed of the drive and the nifty rack you can mount them in. The one thing that trumps all of that is this drive's 100% fail rate. I know from experience that this drive will fail between 24 and 36 months.
Summary: This is the last LaCie drive I will ever buy. It is the third one in a row that has died on me. This one lasted 9 months. The other two both died in under two years. They just do not make a quality product anymore. Also, LaCie will not send you a new drive under the warranty until you send them the old one first, and they spend a lot of time messing with it.
Summary: Purchased a 1.5 TB drive as a Time Machine backup device for my wife's iMac. Installed easily and worked well enough... for six weeks. Will not mount, makes a 'zit... zit... zit... sound. Power Cycled... everything. No change. Drive is dead. Reported to tech support on the Friday before Memorial Day. We'll see how long it takes to get a replacement.
Inconsistent connection on my Mac Pro in eSata mode
Claude G. Budin Juteau "CGBCOMS", Amazon

Summary: I bought a LaCie 2TB D2 Quadra hard Disk from Amazon a few weeks ago and have gone through 3 of them and none of them worked properly using the eSata port. They worked fine with all the other connectors (Firewire 400 and 800 and USB 2) but eSata seems to be a problem for this model. I installed an eSATA Extender cable from Newer Technology to take advantage of the two extra eSata port of the Mac Pro and was able to first connect my Western Digital My Book Studio Edition...
Summary: I am not too computer savvy. I call Lacie tech group about connecting problems Not helpful at all. The guy was so short with me that I felt like I was asking the most stupid question. His remarks was I should have bought a simpler drive that I would ...
Summary: I've used Lacies for years as a video editor. They used to be rock solid and dependable. Not anymore. For the last year, the Lacie d2s I've got from Amazon have loose drives. They rattle out of the box. Unacceptable. I opened one and the drive wasn't even in the slot. I sent the last d2 back to Amazon and got a new one - still rattles. It's back to G Tech drives for me.
