Too Noisy, Wobbly
Robert Summers, Amazon

Summary: I returned this hard drive because it was unacceptably noisy. Also, the base which attached to the bottom of the hard drive was warped, so the hard drive wobbled and did not sit flat on the desk. I purchased it to replace a 250mb LaCie hard drive which had worked quite nicely, and quietly, for 5 years, so I was somewhat surprised at the poor quality of workmanship in this new LaCie 1TB drive.
Summary: I bought it to use with my iMac. After about 4 months, TimeMachine reported it could not access the drive. I had to reformat it and it worked ... for a while. Then it became unaccessable again. I reformatted and within 2 days it was bad. Sorry, but an unreliable backup drive is NOT what I want.
Summary: I work with a lot of images, and about a two years ago purchased three laCie hard drives, 500 gb, 1 tb and 1.5 tb. All three are dead now, and they all died same way - after a long non use period of time (from a week to a couple of months) you turn them on and nothing happens, they are dead, the disk is not spinning and no means can help. If you are looking for something reliable, please find something else.
Summary: This was our second and final experience with LaCie hard drives. It lasted 2 days and then was so corrupted/non-functional that it could not even be reformatted. A previous 1 TB unit did not even work out of the box. Both drives were used on a MAC although this is believed irrelevant. A competitors 'book' drive demonstrated no such frailties and works flawlessly. It is too bad the LaCie drives do not match the excellence of their Silverkeeper backup program.
Summary: Total drive failure in 45 days is not my idea of a quality product. Thank goodness, it was not my only backup solution! Do not even try to find a technical support person to talk to - there are none. Buyer beware!!
Summary: I don't mean to bad mouth any particular company or product, but this is the experience that I had with this particular drive. I purchased this LaCie after making some basic comparisons and reading various reviews here and elsewhere. After I received the drive, I opened it up and read and followed the installation instructions; which for Mac users amounts to nothing more than connecting power and an interface cable. Beautiful.
