Aesthetics are nice, fairly quick access speed for stored movies.

Summary: 4 Tb in a beautiful housing. I've used it mostly for intermittent off-line storage. Pro's: The drive works, you can hear when it's running (though it's not prohibitively noisy). The software and formatting options are a nice bonus. Works well with Mac.
Summary: When you think of backup drive attributes, you probably think of capacity, speed, ease of use and reliability. Aesthetics are not at the top of the list unless you work at LaCie. The Blade Runner is amazing to look at and, no, despite its heat sink appearance, it does not get noticeably warm.
Pros: This thing feels like its carved out of a solid brick of steel. Great for heat dissipation. No problems so far. Install the included power management app and the HD will auto-shutdown when inactive.
Cons: You have to download the LaCie app to get power management working, windows alone doesn't work.
Summary: Plugged it in. Everything works like a charm. It makes an excellent backup drive. It's completely silent. My only criticism is the energy saver which sometimes causes a 2 or 3 second pause when waking from energy saver mode. But that's a pretty first world problem to have.
Summary: This drive doesn't work with Apple's Time Machine software. When you try to raise this with LaCie, they take the drive back, test it on a PC, and tell you it works. Then they send it back to you and it doesn't work. And so on. $320 down the drain….
