  • Summary: It's great. Does the job so ' so far so good' . Didn't have any dealings with the seller so can't comment on that aspect. All in all as long as it does what it claims in the ad that's fine by me.

Very poor after sales service from Lacie (UK)

  • Summary: Lacie Big Disk Extreme + WE have not had a good experience. The unit was originally supplied without a USB cable which made it impossible to operate. There was no tel contact point for Lacie so unable to resolve. Eventually GTR (who I think shipped it) were helpful and posted a USB cable. The unit did and does not work with this. Lacie tel number that answered eventually found but unable to talk to me on the problem until registered.

  • Excerpt: The drive seems to be ok so far. I`ve only had it for nearly a month, however. The first thing I noticed, as was mentioned before, is that Windows loses track of the hard drive! Every so often, the drive changes from NTFS formatting to RAW (which defaults to FAT16). This REALLY screws things up as it can no longer read long filenames. It also doesnt show up in the My Computer folder anymore. This occurs usually after large multi-file transfers.

LaCie with a Mac

  • Summary: I bought the 1 Tb Extreme + for my Mac's Time Machine and use the 800 Firewire. Already pre-formatted for Mac it was straight forward plug in and away you go. Fits nicely behind the Mac. Overheating not a problem, unlike some external drives. I use the auto switch so LaCie powers up/down when Mac is turned on/off. As yet I have had no reason to approach LaCie customer services, but I note previous reviewer's comments.
