Don't trust your data to LaCie

Summary: I bought 2 LaCie Big Disk Extreme Drives in July of 2008 to store my photographs. I am a professional photographer and thought that backing up my data on not one, but 2 external hard drives was the responsible thing to do. By the fall of 2010 both drives had simply stopped working. I had my data recovered but all the images are corrupted. A puzzling thing happened when the data recovery company was working on my drive.
Summary: Great drive. Completely worthless power supply. It will start out okay. Then it will only work when plugged directly into the wall instead of a surge protector. Then it will light up, but not give enough power to the hard drive to boot up. Buy, Fail, Repeat. No longer.
Summary: I purchased two of these LaCie Big Disk Extreme+ 1TB drives a little over a year ago. They worked with relatively little headache on my Dell XPS720 running Windows XP Pro. I just purchased a new Dell XPS9000 running Vista Ultimate 64-bit version. Everytime I plugged in one of the drives I received a message that it could not install drivers. The drives did not work.
Summary: I purchased two of these 1-TB hard drives last November. Very simple to use, but one has already died after minimal use - just makes spinning noises but doesn't mount. Lost all my data. Now I'm worried about losing the rest of my data on the other one, too. Guess I'll be looking at a different brand to back up what's left. Very disappointing.
Summary: My unit was fairly reliable up until last week when it started making a hissing noise while spinning up. I've always felt there were issues with this drive but just assumed that the random spinning and slow seek times were due to the fact that it was a 1tb drive. At this point I'm willing to concede that this was a poorly designed and poorly QA'd product. Steer clear as there are better cheaper alternatives.
Summary: The reason I'm giving this product 1 star is because it came to me broken. And not only that, but I exchanged it for another that had the exact same problem! I talked to LaCie and they've been receiving a lot of complaints. A bad batch went out, so you have the option of sending it to LaCie for a repair. However, the guy at LaCie really sold me on the 1TB Quadra model.
Summary: I have returned two La Cie 1 TB Hard Drives model 301199U for loose screws rolling around inside drive. I purchased it thru Amazon and filled by JR Music World. JR Music World has been very pleasant and understanding about the defective products. I think La Cie needs to get their act together and Amazon should drop this product and not put customers through this ordeal.. I am going to buy another brand of hard drive for my home business.
Summary: Like other reviewers, I too got the loose screw rattling around inside the case. It will void my warranty (protective sticker will be removed) if I open the case. I was hoping to be traveling with it in 3 days. Will Lacie do me right? I filed a support request on the Lacie site. ARGH!!!!!
Summary: On my fourth LaCie drive. All still going. As a photographer I need back up and archive space. This does it all very, very well. I really like the connecting options it provides and it looks as good lying down as it does standing up. Quiet, no major glaring / distracting lights. Shipment was very quick.
Summary: I bought this to use for my backups. I thought that I had bought a quality drive, but it didn't last a year. I just powered itself down one day and never worked again. I'm very disappointed in this drive. The external part is built like a tank, but the inside ... who knows.
