Summary: I have two of these 4big 8TB RAIDS that were bought about 9 months apart and both have had a failed power adapter, so it was a $50 part to fix it. The first RAID adapter failed after about 3 years of use and took down one of the drives.
Excerpt: Not going to blow you away with all the bells and whistles of larger storage arrays, but for semi-pro use, it fits the bill. Reminder to all, the usable storage space goes down as you enable RAID features.
Excerpt: This is a top of the notch piece of hardware. Quality, capacity, speed are great. Manageability is the only drawback. LaCie Desktop Manager utility is mostly basic information. The only parameters you can change are Device Name, Button action, standby time, and some email notification.
Summary: I bought one of these in Feb. 2010 to use with my DVR. So the box has had heavy use for over 2 years (the DVR is always on). It's setup for Raid5. One drive failed while still in warranty from LaCie. The box correctly flagged the drive with the error.
Summary: This is a high quality storage device. Comes with all cables and is very easy to install. I read the other reviews about the unit being too loud..... When turned on this unit is very quiet..... Maybe the sound issue depends on which hard drive you end up with. Customer support was excellent.....
Summary: If you're looking for an external storage solution with eSata, this is a great solution for home offices and SMB. As a photographer and graphic designer, I've found myself going through hard drive space like cookie monster through chocolate chips (sorry, I have kids).
