Summary: I probably have a lemon but my experience is not good. Two days after using the unit, it died. Dead as a doornail. Needless to say I had moved data onto the drive which is now lost because I was in the early stage of setting my system up. Most of the data I have elsewhere...Oh well. Filed for a support ticket with Lacie and, I assume, will get a replacement so I can try again....but I am not feeling the love at this moment in time. Thanks for listening, George.
Summary: I hate this drive. I hate LaCie for making this drive. I will never buy LaCie again. These are my reasons. 1. Software RAID. For the size and price of this thing you'd think they'd super fit it with a rad internal hardware RAID controller. No, they don't. The RAID is controlled by your OS. It's just an overpriced dual drive enclosure. 2. The drives are not user replaceable without voiding the warranty, even though it's VERY MUCH built with user accessibility in mind.
Excerpt: I am a professional with a 30 year experience. I bought this item a little over a year ago and it has needed repair twice. The first time just 4 months after I got it. One of the drives failed and needed to go back for replacement to the LaCie factory in Oregon. Thinking it was reliable product, I did not have a spare drive so the whole purpose of the dual backup system was lost. I live in Mexico City so I contacted LaCie´s customer service by email.
Summary: LaCie was one of the better drive manufacturers... over a decade ago. They are coasting on their reputation and design, while foisting off rapidly failing products and making their warranty service to troublesome, expensive and ultimately unhelpful to bother with.
Summary: The Hard Drive was as described. Matched up with the new iMac using Thunderbolt. I had some problems with the VISA buying the item, but the company worked with me to hold the unit until I was able to clear things up. Good transaction, in the end.
